Warren Hastings, a shrunk- l.at's Talk It Over it'll” Looking over the teachers as- sembled at the Summerside local convention this fall. one might get the impression that the male school teacher. at least in the rural schools. was in danger of getting to be extinct like the dodo. The preponderance of females over males is always pronounced in rural schools. of course. but never so much as seems to be the case this year. The reason for this may be that. though salaries for rural school teachers are not attractive for either sex, they seem particularly low in comparison with salaries given young men in other pursuits. C C We don't suggest for a minute that this growing majority of fe- male teachers will cause a deteri- oration in the quality of instruc- tion in our rural areas. on the contrary. it may well improve it. There are people who claim that in some of our schools the young fry are so perverse and full of in- iquity that they require the re- straining hand of a. muscular male. True discipline is not a by- product of muscular force, how- ever. It is a manifestation of the en figure of a man, was able to hold in subjection the hordes of India by his iron will. Many fe- male teachers are able to main- tain perfect disclpllne by the force of their personalities. O O 0 Much has been written about the road hog that lnfests our highways. Has anyone ever coni- piained in print about the side- walk hog, those car drivers who, in parking, drive their cars up on the sidewalk so far that it is al- most impossibie to get between them and the buildings on the in- ner side? We read recently of a man who, confronted with such an obstacle, climbed up on the etiglne hood, walked across, and j mped down on the other side, a few footprints in the The law warned the climber that this was not the way to deal with the problem, but also reprimanded the sidewalk hog for parking his car so far in. Of course. the pedestrian could have crawled under the chassis and gone his way peacefully, but the best thing to do is to report the leaving process. offending car driver so that hciwlth Mrs. Angeline Blanchard. will not repeat the ogense. lPiusvil1e, - DDT i ? l Mr. Paul Arsenault, Summer- Freeland and Vicinity -Mr. William MacKay of can-,p,,,yed' W... spending some iida.
