METHODIST CONFERENCE. New Brunswick and P. E Island MINISTERIAL CONFERENCE. Monvbay, June 27. The businees of the Conference on Satur- day was unimportant; and a number of the visiting ministers and laymen went driving into the country to enjoy the beautiful scenery and the perfect westher. Nearly all the Protestant pulpits in the town were occupied by Methodist clergy- men. Able and elequent discourses were delivered. We have only space to-day for the following summary report of Rev. Afr. Harrison in the Second Methodist Church : The text chosen was ]f Cor, 13, 9-11. The preacher said : “This ie an age of stir, of intense activity. Ce:tain partics account for this on the ground that faith in God is growing Iss. ‘This is thetolution turniah- ed by the abounding scepticism of to-day. We do not deem the soluicn satisfactory — it is contradictory to the facts. See the sucial questions the church of Gud is grap- pling with to-day as never before ; 1. Intemperance. 2. Slavery. 3. Heathenism. Whence the agitation, stir and restless- ness regardiug these to-day / Is that faith is waning / Or is it thatthe vision is get- ting clearer / There can be no doubt as to the answers. Faith, sympathy, !ove—all elements that con make this world better are strengthening as the years sweep by. The Church no lopger stands on the outer rim of the world’s great needs look- ing on them from a distance, but is throw- ing herself, by her multiplied agenciee, right into their midst. Tais makes the agitation of to-day’ From whcin emanated, humanly speak- ing, the enterprises which bless the wor!d to-day / Men of faith, who grew from children having little force and limited vision into the vigorous manhood they manif.sted. In proportion as the prin- ciples of the gospel have developed, has al! that is opposed thereto in the individual or in the community given way. Ae maturity comes the beginnings have to go. See the buy. His immediate surroundings are very limited. They constitute his world, which is dear to him. - Don’t spoil it, for he en- joys it much. Some dey, however, his father leads him out to soine prominence— and he gets a wider vision. What was his world vanishes away. God is leediog men out and» larger vision is dawning. It may have beeo painful at firet to the littie boy to leave his little world, but the result more than compensates. So in spiritual experiences. Look at the system of astronomy once. It cost an effort to part with the imperfect and erronecus views and theories, but the results are most satisfactory. See Paul. Ile once esteemed everytning of worth limited to-jewelry. But ® larger visioa came. (God showed him that there was much outtide his own uotion, We can afford to put away childiso things.” After 1800 years of Christian teachiog, which has pro duced Letter views of every worthy thing, more tender sympathy for the eaffering world, &c , &c , than ever L-fore existed among men, does anyone ask * Whence these results!” Paganism never yielded them. See their source yonder iu the pe:sou and work of Christ. The iustitutions that biess aud elevate hamanity are Christian. Christ raises the temperature of man’s better nature and melts the icebergs of evil that threaten to chill and crush humanity, Visione are enlarging, manhood is developing. The light is not going out. No wiles of Satan can put out the light streaming into the windows of the nine- teenth century. Wher. Jw uld y .u§ ike ts live Not in China, India, or Japan; bat ia Christendom . Has any great esrrow come to you’ There is mystery about it. Aud perhaps you jadge of God by that sorrow. Do notsoerr, A drop from the oceau is not the measure of the ocean, Don't, therefore, measure God or Heaven by what comes to us here. Some day a broader vision will be given. At the First Methodist church, the Rev. Mesare. Frank Frizzle, George M. Young and J. B. Gough were ordained ministers of the Gospel. The music under Proiessor Baile wae exe cellent and inspiring. In the afternoon, there was a Sunday School service, ia “hich six Sunday Schools were represented, viz: First end Sccond Methodist, Zion and St. James’ (Presbyterian), the Baptist, and Kensiagton Hall (Methedis*) The presence of well nigh a thousand chilldren, full of yourg life and happiness, was delight- ful; and the music was excellent and in- spiriog. Mrs. Harrison eang, beautifully, the anthem, ‘'] will extol Thee, eh Lord.” In the afternoon an opeu air servicé was held at Victoria Park under the beeches, +h- Rev. Silas James preaching a short end weil poluted sermon. FORENOON SESSION. This forenoon Rev Dr Carman tovk the chair. — After singing, Rey D Chapman led in prayer. ev C Hi Paisley presented « peport from the committee appointed to consider # doc ument from the Nova Scotia Conference.
