Hon Premier Peters explained that
this very thing was being done, and on
more 'eiktonded scale than anyone suppo-
sed. Hn had gone to agood dcalfof

its importation and was happy to say that
arrangements were made the fulfilment
ofwhich would result satisfactorily in
this respect. He- further said thatg

Mr. Kickham-Ibeg to draw the atten-
tion of the Commissioner of Public Works
to the Beach Road at Sonris. It is a very
had road. He must know it is impossible
for teams to haul loads over it. I also
bring to his notice the condition of the
road to the Breakwnter. This too is in
an awful state. In former years this road
was kept up by the late Government very
well; now stuff’ has tobe hauled down by
train. It would cost very little to keep it
in good condition. While on my feet I
mayas well allude to some other roads.
There is Beach Road; this is a road on
which no votes could be purchased, con-
sequently tho road is neglected. On other
roads money is wasted while this im-
portant road is neglected. The Commis-
sioner says the Government never pays for
rights of way without opening roads. I
know aroadyfpr which in  n right of
way was bought, but there was
u gate there last Summer. There
is no 'doubt the Commissioner is
aware of this. Alsoin 1807 a right cf
way was bought on the road from Souris
Line to Head of Sourls, ,andthe road
fairly well opened. But it has never
been completed, because they could not
induce a certain man to vote, and so he
was neglecieil. Ibelicve and hope the
Commissioner will attend to these
roads, and that he will open the
road to Bay Fortune. It was wash-
ed out some time ago and they
could notget it repaired. I trust to see
the Hon. Commissioner come up with his
fishing rod to this beautiful Bay For-
tune and go with mc fern day's fishing

AFTERNOON
At two o‘clock the guns of Fort
Edward thundered forth one by one_tho
salute which made known thc fact that
the second session of the 35th General
Assembly of the Legislature of this
province was prorogued. Shortly
thereafter the guard of honor drawn
from the _Artilery under command 'of
Capt. Prowse and headed by the
Regimental Band marched to the
Provincial Building where they formed
up toreceive His Honor the Lieutenant
Governor.
' _His Honor promptly arrived and entered
the Building. Proceeding to the Legis-
lative Chamber he took his scat and in
the King's name assented to the Bills
passed during the Session.

ofa shower of sliver marked the depart-
ure of Earl Grey and his party from New
York for Washington. Besides the
Governor-General, thc party includ-
ed Countess Grey, Lady Eveleyn lGrey,
the Earl's private secretary and two
maids. 'The raining of silver began when
the party left their hotel in New York; it
continued when the porter of the
Pennsylvania ferry carried some haud-
hagsafew feet from the carriage to the
ferryboat. I-ic received a handful of
silver, and so did another porter in
Jersey City. The man who punched their
tickets received two silver dollars.
