\ THE CADRE ' Our Panthers Are Panting ' Things don't appear to be working out too well for the Varsity teams this wi— nter. The hockey team has been having it's Share of' troubles as they are play— ing.inconsistant hockey. One time they defeat a team that is rated highly and then turn around and blow a game to a team that lost ten games in a row. How do you explain the inconsist- ancy? On paper, the team look good, it has two ex— perienced goaltenders, an experienced defence corps, and an inexperienced for- ward unit. One reason is the inability for one of their utop defenceman, Donnie Murnaghan, to make the road trips. At home, spirit is at a maximum, but on the road something is lacking. This team may not be good enough to beat St. Mary's but they have the capability to fin— ish in the top four. However, if they don't get off their butts, and work together as a team, a not as a group of individ— uals; they will find theme selves pulling up the rear. This weekend the Panthers have a chance to redeem themselves as they play the UNB Red Devils in Fredric— ton. They will be hard pressed, however, as the Red Devils outplayed‘them completely the last time they met. So let's go Pan- thers, let's win one just for the hell of it. The basketball Panthe ers seem to be completely hopeless. The Panthers have lost five of their six games, most of these by wide margins. There will be no hope for the Panthers this year. Lack of height and inconsistency seems to be bugging the Panthers. A tall tenter and a consi— stant outside shooter wo- uld greatly improve the Panthers offense, as it stands now the Panthers must concentrate on the in- side and with the lack of an outside threat, the op- posing team is able to shut If no one else wants to use it ‘ ' ’ we might MB m k IMUNVJ“ EL 3 ,s‘.u. ‘ STUDENT UNION MEETING 6:15 Sunday, January 21 Bernardine Hall them off. Bill Robertson, has to be classed as the outside shooter. When he is on, he is one of the best in the league but he seems to be inconsistant. Maybe the Panthers can put it all together and pull out a couple of games this weekend as they host ST.F. X. and Dalhousie. The team that wins most for UPEI is the'team that gets the least atten- ~tion. Yes, the Lady Pan— thers do win. But, they fail to draw the crowds. Barb Mullaly has put tog- ether a good girl's team, that provide excellant JANUARY 19, 1973 PAGE 9 entertainment and just th— ink " ITTS ALL FREE”. It costs no money to go and _ how can you beat that. They deserve as much support as the guys and I for one feel they should get it. So if you are thinking of some— thing to do this weekend, get yourself in gear, and come to the gym as the gi— rls play two games Friday and Saturday at 6:30. THEY MAY NOT BE THE BEST IN THE LEAGUE BUT THEY ARE THE BEST WE HAVE, SO LET”S SHOW OUR SUPPORT, THEY DESERVE IT.
