Reviews, ETC. Femi Kuti "Shoki Shoki" Universal/MCA Femi Kuti is the son of the late Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, the father of Afro-beat music. This CD is a blend of African rhythms and beats, big-band jazz, and James Brown-style funk, topped off with a bit of hip-hop. You've probably never heard of the guy, but if you like danceable, funky, rhythmic stuff, and are looking for something a little different, this CD could be just what you need. McQuaid Kid Koala “Carpal Tunnel Syndrome” Ninja Tunes Listening to this CD is similar to watching 2001: A Space Odyssey — | don’t get it, but | like it. Koala is a Montreal based DJ that has created a CD by sampling over 100 albums, and then mixing it into a somewhat cohesive unit. Besides “Fender Bender,” which is receiving steady play on MuchMusic, most of the album isn’t overly catchy. Itis, however, creative and unique. O’Connor Damhnait Doyle Hyperdramatic EMI ie) y, s Oy te ddyd tie the Sen Soria 714 es It seems that this St. John's native has lost that "Elusive Drug" sometimes referred to as love. That's alright though, because she's managed to create 11 fine tracks all about this situation. Featuring a trip-hop feel backing her personal lyrics and beautifully trained voice, Doyle has recorded a winner with this, her major label debut. If you like the song "Tattooed," odds are you'll like the rest of the album, so you may as well go buy it now. It's strange though, she didn't seemed to be so love deprived when | talked to hera couple months ago... O’Connor Boot Camp Clik - Boot Camp Clik’s Greatest Hits - Basic Training Priority/Virgin/ Duckdown 3 Strikes - Soundtrack Priority Records Lots of Soundtrack filler but the Likwit Crew and Ras Kass tracks are pretty hype. If you don’t already have “G’d Up” by Tha Eastsidaz and “Let’s Ride” by Choclair then it’s probably worth the cash money. Marcus D’Angelo Voodoo EMI/Virgin HATSHLL PEST TAN CH aU OU tM Hie The BBC collective comprised of groups Black Moon, Originoo Gunn Clapazz, Cocoa Brovaz (Smif-N- Wessun) and Heltah Skeltah defiantly have enough hits to make this album a good one. This is the type of album for someone who likes BCC but doesn’t have all the group albums. Marcus While | am ordinarily not fond of naked men slowly rotating in their videos, and while | think 78 minutes is a shade long for anything but a Beastie Boys record | have to say the the ebony lover's first release in five years is excellent. It reminds me of Marvin Gaye, Jimi Hendrix, and, of course, Roberta Flack. Bruyneel MO ae CAN YOU Bg 3 Ny Wa Cees a TT Ce ae ee RCC RT Be a Brother Now.
