We are not apt to | follow this, I have not strictly myself, yet Ido not believe it the proper thing | to do, from my own observations. We | dc not like to plow a piece of land | that is Dearing a good crop of hay when | we have land much poorer. The in- | clination is to plow the poorest every time. I believe, as a rule, farmers do | not harrow their land enough, more es— ‘ pecially forhoed crops. It is of great | importance that the land be thoroughly | pulverized, as in so doing you break up {the lumps and liberate much plant | food, which wceuld not otherwise be available, and so we should not feel it a ‘ag of time to thoroughly harrow our before planting, but feel it to | be economy to do so. Economy is not in hoarding up money, and a psn s time is money, and it is not enough to know and to say “I work all the time,” but we must see to it that our time as money is wisely expended in our farm labor. Governor Hoard has said that agri— culture is one of the mighty forces of this great national life; its prosperity means community, state and national health ; its decay means community, state and national ill health and de- generacy, therefore the highest patriot- ism is involved in every effort from the farmer to the National Congress that shall promote and i improve the con- dition of our agriculture and enrich Our understanding of farm froblems and principles. The problem of tillage is €asily worked out by any farmer if he will try. It will take but a few years to show the advantage of thor- ough tillage on any farm if the farmer ill but-note the difference between thorough cultivation and poor or but little cultivation. Farming is a busi- ness that onght to grow like any other busines if well managed. Ifa farmer passes fom one decade to another and keeps the same amount of stock or less he is not managing the business rightly unless his farm is up te the limit of cultivation. Stir the ground thorough- ly and stir often, is one of the things for us to keep in mind. Chase’s Kidney-Liver Pills, Did it ever occur to you that most railroad men die of kidney disease? Such is the fact, however, and the disease is known among railroaders as ‘‘ railroad kidney.” Thefirst and most marked symptom isa weak, lame and aching back. You may think at first that you are only tired; but as this trouble in- creases day by day, kidney disease, with all its terrors, is fast claiming you as a victim, Mr. Geo. Cummings, for over 20 years en- ineer on the Grand Trunk running between iecas. and Allandale, says: ‘‘ The constant duty with my work gave me excessive pains in my back, racking my kidneys, I tried several remedies until I was recommended by my fire- man, Mr. Dave Conley, to try Dr. Chase’s Kidney-Liver Pills.
