However, in my own case one game stands out very vividly in my memory. All of us who curl live for the day we can represent our Province in‘ the Dominion Brier play. For years this actua- lity evaded me by extra ends, one rock, and at times by what I thought to be a poorer team (who To An doesn t‘.’). In the year ‘51 four MacDon- - alds lined up to take on the world. We had all been shooting for years for the honor» of repres- T . . 0 enting our Province and we felt in our hearts this was the year. One of our members maintained charlofietown that we could spot any team in the club eight points in a twelve * end me and beat them. FOR THE Wel Sir! The Island team only lost one’ game till they got to the finals and they had to play a team from Minn- ‘ eapolis, U.S.A. This rink went under the name of the Polski Brothers. They were a profes- sional rink. . Rankine MacLaine in his 45 years of curling considered this the most exciting and memor- able game of his lifetime. The score was 7-all coming home, with the Polski brothers having last stone. In the final end mate Rankine had one stone laying ip after his last stone had been ".hro\vn. The Polski rink tried to knock it out but missed by a aiair. The competing’ teams had acen playing knockout game all the way so mate Rankine asked Hawkins to place a guard on their stone. He told Hawkins he would reward him with one thou- sand dollars if he could put a guard on this stone. Hawkins scored a perfect throw to place a guard and thus for-ce the3op- posing rink to try a draw. The Polski brothers tried but missed and so the Island rink brought home the Interiiational Curling Championship, which is also the first time that an Island senior SPLIT WELCOME GUATEMALA (AP) — Organ- izers of Billy Graharn’s revival meetings here called on the pub- ‘.ic to welcome the U.S. evange- ist Wednesday with a mass dem- instration and parade.
