S.; Langerman and Hon. Edgar Rennie llowrlng. The Commission will leave England for Canada about the first of August and will make their first call nt Syd- ncy, C. B. This informa- tiun is being prepared nnd we have no doubt its publication in the rc- port of the Commission will bo of :great vnluc to the future of the in- dustry. THE IlD.llLl'l'lll'l'S A eontcmporsrygives the followipg diagnosis cf nnd militantiem: The report that the militant sulragettes UOID' sanity possesses these mad women to such an extent that they will atop at nothing. Without compunc- tion they will poison the water to be drunk by 8,000,000 men, women nnd children. Widespread sickness and death may result, but what care the militants so long as the traditional chivalry of Englishmen protects them against fitting penalties. _ The militant suflragette movement is a sex movement in more senses than one. The overseas Dominions have drained llreat Britain of Buch vast numbers of its marriageable men that érnnnuung use n miuinn nnd a half women are left behind in the Old Country with virtually no op- portunity to fill their natural roles in the scheme of existence. In want of homes and husbands and children these women fall an easy prey to an agitation which at least affords them an outlet for their energies and a new intcrcit in life. _ 'l`hcre is ample medical and psycho- logical experience to support this explanation of a painful pheno- menon. The high-strung female ner- vous system, when not balanced by normal conditions, not infrequently develops a tendency to hysteria. When n large number of women in this state get together under a corn.- mon impulse the result may easily be appalling. The pity of it is that in their blind fury the militants are in- juring the caus_e for which they strive. All over thc country the masses of men and women are greatly in- censed at the incendinries, who glory in the daily destruction of art treasures, residences, churches and other valuable property. The nt- teinpt to poison nruiltitildes through their drinking water is Medician in its ingenuity. It is doubtful if the _police will irucb longer be able to --- protect the crazy creatures against thc anger of the mob.
