I D Local fans will be in for a big evening of entertainment at the Forum on Friday night when the Charlottetown and Sumnicraide Fire Departments stage a tourna- ment and “old timers" hockey match. 'I‘,he two teams who will clash on the iced surface will be made up of hockey stars of’ yester- years from Charlottetown and Summerside, and will no doubt re- enact many of the old "titanic struggles" which thrilled hockey fans here in years gone by. o o u In addition to (he hockey match, the two Fire Departments in co- operation with the P. E. I. Inn- keepers Association have all kinds of other novelty events and feats up their sleeves to provide a thrill- packed evening of hilarious enter- tainment. o - "Bucko" 'l‘rainor's promotion to the Rangers has caused a sudden upswing of interest in the doings of the New York Club and as a result Ranger games are now pro- ving more popular wizn a large number of local fans than the broadcasts of the Maple Leafs home encounters. The reason is easily seen when it is known that Bucko was always a popular figure hereabouts and as several fans re- marked recently when talking about Trainor “it couldn't have happened to a‘ nicer guy." - - According to fans who listened in on Sunday's broadcast from New York, Bucko is beginning to snow his worth and Sunday night had several scoring chances only to missout. However. if he con- tinues with the club and there seems no reason to think differ- ently — that is from this (listancc — he should pick up his shor" of points from now on. Despite the lopsided score. how- ever. the St. Joseph squad wnl a much improved tcum OYCI‘ their lastnppearance here and played some really smart passing Iiockcy which took them right in on goal on numerous occasions but they just seemed to lack the finish in around the net to get the puck past goalie Weeks. The weak link on the lineup was goalie Verault, who definitely opening whistle, the visitors made things pretty tough for the Abbies, and although the locals opened the covered quickly, and banged in three goals in a row before the eight-minute mark had been reach- ed to take a two-goal advantage.
