MATIIIAS KOUGHAN It was with a feeling of deep- est regret to learn of the sudden death of Mathias Kolrzhan, son of Mrs. Kouzhan and the late Martin Kougltsin of Dona.gh,which occurred in the City Hospital on October 7, in his 57th year. In the passing of Mr. Kong- han, the district of Donaglh has lost a valuable neighbor, being of a kind, charitable and obliging nature. This, coupled with his great ability to perform any job, will leave a vacancy which will be difficult ts-fill. i But it is in the home where his presence wil be missed the most. because he could always be found there, attending and directing the many details that are common to family life. Some 30 years ago, he married Miss Catherine MacDonald, daugh- ter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Norman MacDoms.ld of Webster's Corner, and settled down to farm Hie and although they raised in large family, through their hard work, thrtftness and careful management, they suc- ceeded in providing themselves with a comfortable home. He was a. devout member of the Catholic Church, receiving the. Last, Sacred Rites a short timi- previous to his death. and was visited frcnumtlyl by his pastor, Rev. T. P. Words are hard put to tell the full story of Canadian achievement in 1953. During this past year, Canada took new strides forward in almost every deld of endeavor. These strides toward the futurk were made possible through an investment-by Canadians in all walks of life- of time, talent .. . . and money. How important a your money played in Canada's progress in 1953 can be seen from the following highlights taken from the B of M's Annual Report for this year. Printed here, these figures - as they did all through 1953 - speak louder than words. stand ard of living. IQO DEPOSITS: At the end of the Bank's year, October 31st, 1933, over two million Canadians had 9,226,960,353 in deposits with the Bof M -money which has been kept hard at work with Canadian enterprise of every description and size. Although much of this money belongs to institu- tions and business hrrns, well over half of these deposits represent the savings of everyday Canadians - savings that, day by day, are working for you . . . and for Canada. LOANS: Your bank is playing an important role in our expanding economy by means of loans to Canadians of . every calling-fal-mere. miners, fishermen, oil men, lum- l bermen, ranchers -to individual and business enterprises and to Provincial and Municipal Governments. As of October 51st, B of M loans totalled 3857,762,561 - the highest figure in the history of the Bank. In a thousand ways, these dollars played their part in maintaining full employment and in sustaining - or bettering - our INVESTMENTS: At the close of the year the B of M had 8864,057,948 invested in high-grade government bonds and other public securities whichhave a ready market. This money is helping to finance government projects for the betterment of the country and the welfare of Canadians at large. Other securities held by the Bank-mainly short-term credits to industry-bring total investments to 89s2,49o.a26. The message these figures express is a confi- dent and encouraging one. Actually, it is your message...for it is made possible by your savings. ”MY HANH' I0 I IIIIIM (INDIA)! .
