The work is rapidly being concluded by those in charge and in the course of a few days will be a credit alike to the popular contractors, Lows Brothers, and to the whole city and the Province. The building inside has been inspected by numerous visitors from abroad and some have even gone so far as to pro- nounce the Post Oillce with all the im- provements and additions to be superior ‘to any this side of Winnipeg not omitting the large cities of Montreal and Toronw. i The Dominion meant Davis Ewm of Ottawa has shown much - skill in hil- drsigns and Lowe Bros. in the execution of his plans have left a monument which is no less creditable to them. Thecorridors whiohjltsld -br three sides are of tessilated noqilng nndlst the rear are concrete steps whllai front one asoendsto the main hallwq by stone. The tiles have been laid by Vernon Lowe, son of Samuel Laws and the different designs of the Mosaic pettem are in excellent taste The corridor on the west has been made principally by the enlarging of the old hall by the removal of the partition 8 ft. 6 inches, thus lessening the Savings Bank Department by that much. The letter boxes and drawers, 1137 in all, extend on the western and southern sides of the building The general Hnish of the interior .ls of ash while the entrance and Savings Bank doors are of quartered oak. The general delivery wickets and the stamp vendor's apartment are at the south east corner of the building. The delivery is protected by polished brass rails while the stand of the stamp ven- dor is handsomely finished in ash and plate glass. Near hy are two writing desks with polished glass tops for use of the public. On the east side are the wickets for registered letters and money orders with grill work and chipped and bevelleci glass fronts. Adjoining is the office of the Post- master, well lighted from the east and convenient to all the branches of the service. New sashes and new windows have been placed thus giving much greater light than formerly and adding much to the appearance. { SINGLE COPY 2 CENTS 15 CENTS PER MONTH si wmk is done is tioored with kiln dried native birch which has also been slalned. A newly invented sorting frame has been added to the equipment and the whole outfit of the opening tables etc., has been constructed by Lowe Bros. A striking feature is the very compact key case for the better boxes and draw- ers.Thls is a great improvement on the old system for a koy can now be procured by the clerk at a glance. At the general delivery wickets the letter cases have been so arranged as io be within arm’s reach of thejdellveryplsrk while the papers are only a step away. In tho Money Order and Rrgi tration oilloes the desks have been made of pieced asldwood by the contractors and their ‘work fs certainly a credit. Inthe rear isa large three basin sink wl~h marble tops. Tha entrance for malls is protected ity routing and leads into a good sized room. The outride general letter drop is at the lwrth elst corner. It will be protect- ‘ed by a roding which will be built ln a few days. The oilice of the Assistant Inspector is located as the north west corner of the interior and adjacent is the entrance from the corridors. The clerks’ entrance will be in the same place as before tie renovation took place. The Oilice will be lighted both by gas and electricllght. The gas fittings are being installed by Stanley, Shaw &: Peardon for Lowe Bros. and the electric wiring by W. P. Doull. The artistic painting was the work of George Prowse who was employed by the contractors. The lavatories in the basement are models of neatness. They are divided by slate partitions and have porcelain well ilnish and tiled flooring. The work in renovating the Savings Bank Department will be begun shortly and the fact that the contract for this has also been awarded to Lowe Bros is abundant proof that the contract will be satisfactorily performed. \ViiEN A SORE WONT HE AL Because of its power to heal raw, llam- lrgiiesh, to allay the inflammation and stop the dreadful itching Dr. Chas’s Oint- ment has a world~wine reputation.
