ISLAND LADY DEAD.-The sad death of Mrs Frank Kirwan, which occurred in Wallace, N.S., on the 16th inst., will call forth great sympathy from the many friends of the family here. Three very large presses are now constantly at workpressiiig the hay into bales which average about 90 lbs. -So far about 500 tons have been treated in this way. About 45 men are ein- ployed on tho work. forking the hay, attending the presses, wiring, loading, etc. The presses are run by a 20-li.p. imperial gaoline eiigine, in charge of Mr Norman W'atson. After the hay is pressed it is conveyed by teams to the warehouse on the Marine' Wharf, where it is being stored to be In readi- ness when the time comes for ship- ping it. lt is uiulerstood a special steamer will come here to convey thc Iiay to the seat for war, where it will he used for feeding the horses of the British army.
