It iS nearly three weeks since College
_ opened and the students are about proper-
ly settled down to work.
A large number of the 'old students are
back but among them are many new [ones
-freshmen of course.
In the arts faculty the first-year class is
larger than it has been for some years
past-, while in the _other faculties the first
year classes are correspondingly larg e.
Many of the students were surprised to
see Mr. M. J. McPherson arrive in their
midst a few days ago. During the sum-
mer months Mr. McPherson took .1 course
iii theology in the Theological College in
Winnipeg and it was understood by
many thathe intended completing his arts
in this city during the winter Session.
Mr. McPherson had some notion of doing
this but found that ` the Arts course
of Dalhousie was fair superior to the course
to be obtained there and decided to come
back. \Vhilc in college in Winnipeg Mr.
McPherson succeeded in not only distin-
guishing himself in his studies, reference
to which was made in our columns not
long since,but he also cairied off prizes in
the collegiate sports. In the annual athlet-
ic games he won a first prize for putting
the sixteen pound shot and second prize
for kicking the foot-hail. The first and
Second prizes were n beautiful walking-
cane and ai fountain pen respectively.
The football season is nowvon and the
boys have entered into the playing with a
greater interest than ever before. Be-
sides the Senior and the Junior teams who
are to contest with the other teams in_the_
city for their respective trophies, inter-
class teams have been formed who will
contest for a trophy among themselves.
