Arabi declares that he will not Turkish troops if they are unaccompanied by European auxi.iaries. He fights not against Turkey, but against the meddle- someness of European stock-hunters. Special to the Examiner. ALEXanprRia, July 26. Sounds of heavy firing have been heard proceeding from the direction of the Aboukir forts. A later despatch says that the bombardment has been postponed. Still later, a despatch comes, announcing a settled bombardment on the Alexandrian plan if the forts do not surrender before Monday. A rumor is prevalent here that Arabi has proposed terms to the British. His conditions are, voluntary exile and reten- tion of rank for himself, and for nine of his colleagues. Smail Pox in Winnipeg. Special to the Examiner. Orrawa, July 29. The remains of an immense whale have been discovered at Smith's Falls about twenty-eight miles inland from the St. Lawrence. The discovery was made about thirty five feet below the surface of the | ground. Sir Charles Tupper, to-day, signed a contract in New York for the construction of the Nova Scotia Section of the European and American Short Line Railway. Work is to be commenced next week. Much excitement is caused in Winnipeg over the outbreak of some very bad cases of small-pox. The disease was brought in by some of the emigrants. These are now put under the control of the health otticers. GENERAL NEWS. Lord Carlingford moved a second reading of the Arrears of Kent Pill. Dustin, July 27. A desperate but unsuccessfnl attempt was made to assassinate the Recorder of Dublin, at Green Street Court House. A tutor named Fitzpatrick, who was non-suited as plaintiff in a civil bill process, fired at the Recorder with a revolver in the open court, but was fortunately seized by the de fendant and a policeman. e ALEXANDRIA, July 27. A tremendous conflagration broke out in Alexandria at two o’clock this morning. As seen from the harbor, the fire seemed to be larger than any since the bombard- ment.
