LE a Bustvessi1ke Murpeg —Assassination is a Japanese political measure applicad'e not to Europeans only. We quote Mr. de Por blanque’s ateount of the murder of the Prince Regentor Gotairo, unole to the young Tyevon, | a@ be approached the gate of his ewa resi- dence after a coremonijal visit to his nephew. The morning has been very showery, & group of mex in broad-brimmed straw hats and rain-goats, who may be labourers, traders, anything, halt, as if to kneel with the rest of the people, at the approach of the prooes- ein Suddenly, as if by word of command, they cast off their pain-coats, and, glittering in couts of mail, their bright ewords brandjsh- ed en bigh, they spring upon the Uotairo, as, unconscious of danger, he reclines in his chair. .}bie followers, unprepared for attack, stapd aghast aa one of the norrimon-bearers falls to the ground, cleft from the skull to | the chim. The norrimon lies a wreck—there are shouts and groans—and then § man rushes through the barrier, waving a bieed- trophy, as he cries to the astounded guardian of the gate, ** Make way fur the head of the Gotaire ?"’ The aseailed, if they could not save, will avenge their chief. A furious cgnffie! ensues | assassins are but one to five. Several lie dead ; others, desperately wounded, have yet time to commit the Hari Kari; four are oyer-. powered, and reserved for a less sudden death ; only three cut their way through their enemies, an! escape. Ten mnytes igter, and all is quiet. The Gigtairo’s procession has passed inte the palace, the dead and wounded have dissppeared as i! they bad never been. A shower has washed away the blood, and men, as they pass upon their errands, do not stop to notice the frag- ments of a norrimon, and beneath it the bleeding fingers of ahuman hand. Theasave the only remaining tryces of the Gotairo’s death. Un the following day the unfortunate of- fiver on duty at the barrier through which the murdered prince's bead hed been borne in triumph, who had fa:led to arrest the aseas- win, was requested to perform the Har! Kari. lle was a highly respectable and Fespected jndiyidual, and a large party of his relations and friends assembled at his residence to witness tue ceremony. Having taken leave of them, and admitted the justice of bis sentence, he made a superficial crucial inci- sion on his abdomen with 9 small knife worn tor such emergeocios, and then handing his Jarge sword to his nearest male fgjend (who stands on such sccasions in the same rela- tive ag the best man at an English wedding). | he bared and bent hjanegk; the blade gleamed | in the air, aod the hegd rolled on the | ground. it may be imagined that such an event as the murder of the Pyinoe Regent, in open day — and in the public streets of the capital, must haye ion ties wildire, prodacing amaz:- | ment and consternation throughout the city ; | yet, strange tu say, few appeared to he aware | af it, aud the officers cuout the Legation | when quastiqgngd suid they hud heard some- thing about g fight near the palace, but that the Gotairo was quite well. Mr. Aleook, on his making official inquiries, was informed that it was truc that the Gotsiro had heen attacked and slightly | j wounded, but on his offering his services in a | 2 surgical capacity (he had stadied and prac- tised medjcine with great success in early life) met with a cold refusal. o all his subsequent inquiries, as to those | of his colleagues, the invariuble reply was thac the Gotairo was ** neither better nor worse,’ whieh, considering that his head had rot been recovered, was perfectly true ; and six weeks elapsed before the represen- tagives of foreign Powers were officially in formed that the attack upon the Prince Regent hag resulted in immediate death.— Review of De Foablanque’s ** Two Years in Japan.”’ - =o _ Barxuw’s Last Serevutation.—The New York correspondent of the Philadelphia Press says the fashionable eveut of the season is unquestion- ably the affiance of Tom Thumb and his Lillipu- tian bride. Only a city yep a Barnum eau appreciate the stiy such and elaborate bur- jesque is capable of creating; for there ean be no doubt that it is all the work of the great showman, aud one of those immense sensations which he so inimitably works up fer his great profit, about | guce meyery five years. It is already telling munificently at his myseum, where the throng to see the little bride-to-be never ahatys frum ten o'clock in the morning uutil the same bour at right. Hy the first half of this dwarf enterprise, Mr. Barnum can hardly fail to clear at least one hondred thousand dollars, aud when it comes to | eshibiting General Tey Thumb and his bride ne a wartied , the d'argent will be eomplepe. jast paw» 4 the Mapee Thum and his jntended, esgurted by the equally abbrseyigted Commodore Natt, were guests at the princely Fith Ave gue yesidence of Mre. Auguste Belmont. Miss War- ren's whole outfit of bridal apparel, revealing in miniature the entire mystery of the feminine wardrobe, ostentatiously displayed in one of the great windows of Lord & Tuylor’sestablishment, au Broadway, attracts constant crowds ef ubserv- ors: her bridal jewllery is alse a great attraction at Ball, Black & Co's. and a large Eastern picture, intended for presentation ta the happy part. finds protitable exhibjtien in another locality. The General was greatly cisgusted yesteyday to jearn that Trinity Chapel could pat bp the seene of his marriage, a the admission of a congregation by tickets, and quder the restriction of full dress, js directly against the rules of the Episcopal Church. Auvther sanctuary, however, will at unee be selected, and the cerenmony will be perform- ed with all possible pomp. Upon leaving the church, the wedding party will adjourn to the Metropolitan Hotel, the whole lower or first floor at which is te be adapted to the use of a grand reception. The affajr is the talk of the whole town, ridieylous as jt must appear to outsiders, aed acems to be a topic fraught with intense eu- joyment for the old as well as the young. Barnum is fairly eclipsing himself, and can agord to be prond of this last success in the science of * money making.” Barley! Barley t WANten, 3000 Bushels BARLEY. J. 8. CARVELL. IMPORTANT TO PARENTS. There is no medicine in the knowe@ world, or phy- | sician, that has ever claimed the skill of eradicating from the system diseases inherited, by transmission, from parent to child. ‘This great power we claim for Kapway’s Kenxovating Kesotvent; and we religiously declare, that if Radway’s Renovating | herited disease are first exhibited, it will eradicate the same from the system. In tho early stages of | Pkthisis or Consumption, Fits, Scrofula, and in cases | of sore head, Ulcers, Tumors, Macking Cough, Brou- | chitis, the use of Rapway’s Rexovating Resot- | VENT will exterminate the transmitted dixease from | the system, and make (what the parents neglected) | sound and healthy body. CHRONIC DISEASE. Another class of disexses that no other medicines or the most skilful physicians have succeeded in ‘achieving, more than in merely palliating the suf- | ferings of the patient, which Radway’s Resolvent will positively eradicate, is that of Chronic Diseases that have infested the system for years, such as Chronic Kheumatisw, Gout, Scrofula, Dyspepsia, Syphilis, and diseases induced by the injudicious use of Calomel, Mercury, Quinine ; diseases of the Liver, Spleen, Gall, Bladder, Kidneys, Spine, &c., ail of which diseases Kadway’s Kenovating Resolvent will eradicate, and secure to the patient a new lease of life. The price of Radway’s Renovating Resolvent is $1.00 per bottle, Dose, a tea-spoon, twice full, half an hour after each meal. Sold by druggists and merchants everywhere. A SPEEDY PURGATIVE. DR. When we tell the public that the v.e of Radway’: Ready Relief will cure the sick of certain diseases; | that it will stop pain in a few minutes after its ap- plication; that it will protect the system against at. | tacks of all malarious, contagious and infectious dis- | eases, we have the facts to establish the truth of eur } proved its unfailing powers on their own persons. There is no place so well calculated to test the use- fulness of a specific medicine as a military camp. | Radway’s Ready Relief has been used in almost every | camp throughout the Grand Army of the Union with | the happiest success. Letters from Br gade and Re- | gimental surgeons, officers, and privates assure us that Radway’s Ready Relief hus contributed more t | the protection of the troops against disease, and tu the use and comfort of the sick than all other med- |icines used or means suggested by the medical au- thorities. RADWAY’S READY RELIEF Will stop pain and restore the sufferer to ease and comfort in a few minutes after its use. It never fails to afford relief to the patient IN CASES OF Rheumatism, Neuralgia, Lumbago, Tic Doloreux, Gout, Tuothache, Sciatica, Face Ache, Ear Ache, Numbness, Swollen Joints, Sprains, Lameness, Strains, Pain in the Kidneys, Wounds, Paiu in the Bladder, Astawa, Difficult Breathing, Pleurisy, Pain in the Side, Small of the Back, Shoulders, Spine, Its use will, in a few minutes, relieve you of pain, and its continued use cure you of the complaint. CHRONIC RHEUMATISM, ASTHMA, SLEEPLESS NIGHTS. Let those who cannot enjoy an hour’s calm sleep, make a trial of it. Wm. Sydney Myers, Esq., of the Havana (Cuba) Press, well known to the New York, New Orleans and London (England) Press, says that for twenty yeare he had becn a sufferer from ACUTE not slept an hour at any one time. He applied Rad- way’s Keady Relief, and felt immediately relieved, | and slept soundly, and awoke in the morning free from pain. Its continued use cured him. Genera! Jose Villamil, Commander-in-Chief of the army of Ecuador, S. A., bad been afflicted with ASTHMA for TWENTY YEARS, could not lay down in his bed without subjecting himself to violent paroxysms of coughing. The first application of the Ready Kelief gave him the first calm, undisturbed sleep he had enjoyed for twenty years. ‘Thousands of other cases could be adduced, if necessary, but the best evidence Ww those poor disturbed sleepless suf- ferers, is to try it, and enjoy a night of ease and com- fort. PAIN.— PAIN.—PAIN. It is entitle’ to public confidence on the ground that in all cases when it is used where pain exists, it will afford speedy relief, and never fail to mitigate the sufferings of the patient, be the disease it may. If it does not accomplish a perfect cure it will re- store ease to the afflicted, nor will its use, under any circumstances, interfere with other treatment, or fasten new difficulties upon the patient. ’ denilia aa S READY RELIEF 8 sold by Druggists and Merchantz everywh 25 cents, 50 cents and $1 90 er Het 3 rst: er the label of each bott!e bears tlle signatare of Kap- war & Co. | Rapway & Co, 23 John Street, New York. It eB , ome either produces or is —— produced by an en- Ga _ feebled, vitiated state —of the blood, wherein = that fluid becomes in- competent to sustain the vital forces in their x vigorous action, and oan ae SS leaves the system to —S «<5 fall into disorder and decay. The scrofulous contamination is va- riously caused by mercurial disease, low living, disordered digestion from unhealthy food, impure air, filth and filthy habits, the depressing vices, and, above all, by the venereal infection. Whatever bo its origin, it is hereditary in the constitution, descending “from parents to children unto the third and fourth generation ;” indeed, it secms to be the rod of Him who says, “I will visit the iniquities of the fathers upon their children.” The diseases it originates take various names, according to the organs it attacks. In the lungs, Scrofula produces tubercles, and finaily Consumption; in the glinds, swellings which suppurate and be- come ulcerous sores; in the stomach and bowels, derangements’ which produce indi- gestion, dyspepsia, and liver complaints ; on the skin, eruptive and cutaneous affections. These, all having the same origin, require the same remedy, vix., purification and invigora- tion of the blood. Purify the blood, and these dangerous distempers leave you. With feeble, foul, or corrupted blood, you cannot have health; with that “life of the flesh” healthy, you cannot have scrofulous disease. Ayer’s Sarsaparilla is compounded from the most effectual anti- dotes that medical science has discovered for this afflicting distemper, and for the cure of the disorders it entails. That it is far supe- rior to any other remedy yet devised, is known by all who have given ita trial. That it does combine virtues truly extraordinary in their effect upon this class of complaints, is indisputably proven by the great multitude of publicly known and remarkable cures it has made of the following diseases: King’s Evil, or Glandular Swelli Tumors, Eruptions, Pimples, Blotches and Sores, Eryuipelas, Rose or St. Anthony's Fire, Salt Rheum, Scald Head, Coughs from tuberculous deposits in the lungs, White Swellings, Debility, Dropsy, Neuralgia, Dyspepsia er Syphilis and Syphilitic tions, Mercurial Diseases, Female Weaknesses, and, indeed, the whole scrics of complaints that arise from impurity of the blood. Minute reports of individual cases may be found in Aver’s AMERICAN ALMANAC, which is furnished to the druggists for gratuitous distribution, wherein may be learned the directions for its use, and some of the remarkable cures which it has made when all other remedies had failed to afford relicf. Those cases are purposely taken from all sections of the Country, in order that every reader may have access to some one who can speak to him of its benefits from personal experience. Scrofula depresses the vital energies, and thus leaves its victims far more subject to disease and its fatal results than are healthy constitutions. Hence it tends to shorten, and does greatly shorten, the average duration of human life. The vast importance of these considerations has led us to spend years in perfecting a remedy which is adequate to its cure. This we now offer to the public under the name of Ayrr’s SansaPaRILva, although it is composed of ingredients, some of which exceed the best of Sarsaparilla ip alterative power. By its aid you may protect yourself from the suffer- ing and danger of these disorders. Purge cut the foul corruptions that rot and fester in the blood, purge out the causes of disease, and vigorous health will follow. By its pecu- liar virtues this remedy stimulates the vital functions, and thus expels the distempers which lurk within the system or burst out on any part of it. We know the public have been deceived by many compounds of Sarsaparilla, that promised much and did nothing; but they will neither be deceived nor disappointed in this. Its virtues have been proven by abun- dant trial, and there remains no question of its surpassing excellence for the cure of the afflicting diseases it is intended to reach. Although under the same name, it is a very different medicine from any other which has been before the people, and is far more ef- fectual than any other which has ever been available to them.
