Leonard in Independent. ccetrigelialie tations Belis In Jertsalem,. Turks and Jews as well as Christiana, according to the Kolnische Volksze- tung, have been much excited by the sound of the three bells of the new Prot estant church in Jerusalem. For sever- al centuries the use of bells by the Chris- tians in Palestine or elsewhere witbin the Ottoman empire had been probibit- ed by the great Turk, who has conceded it now, however, to his friend and ally, the evangelical German kaiser. In the Theatre de la Turgue, published in 1688, it is said: ‘‘The Turks hate bells as a symbol of Christianity and do not per- mit even the Christians to use them. Only in a few remote mountain con- vents or in lonely islands where there are no resident Mobammedans is the use of a bell tolerated.’’— Westminster Gazette. a ALL HEADACHES from whatever cause cured in half an hour by HOFFMAN'S HEADACHE POWDERS 10 cents and 25 cents at all druggists.
