Hauirax, July 14, Commenting on the new Cabioet, the Chronicle (Liberal) says: © The new Government of Canada is probably the strongest Government, Conservative or Liberal, that Canada has had since Con- federation. In saying this we do not overlook the fict that the first Conserva- tive Government after Confederation and the Mackenzie Government included some very able men. The people of Canada may rest assured that the men whom Premier Laurier has called around h m will give this Canada of ours a faithful, honest, clean and eff- cient administration of public affairs, and will devote themselves so earnestly and patriotically to the promotion of tie public weal that they will win the unstint- ed confidence and admiration of their polit- ical opponents.” The Herald (Liberal-Conservative) re- marks : “Mr. Laurier, after much search - ing among his friends elected to Parlia ment, and among the governments and legisiatures of the provinces, has so tar succeeded in gathering togeiher a batch of men more or less attracted by what Mr. Beaugrand calls ‘the Treasury soup, that he fee's able to announce the personnel of the new ministry albeit not yet complete for though the new Premier has searched his party high and low and far and wide he has not yet found a man for the porifolio of the Interior.
