Mr, Spicer was so bad' that' his hands would swell and cause him much suffering -from the pain. Mr. Eurias Spicer. Bpencer's ls- land N. S_. writes: "For one year I was aiilicted with rheuma.tism,.and suffered from lbackache, and weak kidneys. My .hands used to swell, and I could not sleep at night. I consulted two doctors within that time, but neither one of them did me ‘much good. Finally I commenced e treatment of Dr. 0hase's Nerve Food and Dr. Chaae’s Kidney-Liver Pills. I had read about this combined treat- ment in Dr. Cbase'e Almanac, and rea- _olved to give it a. trial. GERMAN PUBLIC OPINION Every appeal to the German peo- ple over the heads of its leaders. every attempt to impress' it with the :ood faith and disinterestedness of its opponents in this war, every as- surance that we are lighting, not for the extermination of the German people, but for'tlrelr right to de- velop their great virtues and mani- 'est genius in the humane forms in- sured alone under the influence of free institutions, pre-supposes in Ger- many tlre existence of at least a ker- nel ‘of the sort of thought which we describe by the phrase "public opin- ion." But no one who has been long and intimately familiar with the in- side of German institutions, with -the ways of thinking in typical German circles, whether liberal of conserva- tive so-called, with the whole politi- cal atmosphere breathed by radical or reactionary wlthirr the borders of the German Empire. can hesitate to say that there never has been in Germany any such tiring as public 'opinion.-C. C: _.4._ “Women's Sister Service" is a term that has just come into use for the very excellent reason that women are connected in so many ways with the British Service. First they were at- tached to the army and people be-_ came familiar with the "W.A.A.C.s." Then women were taken on as a part of the navy and soon every one was tarrflrlsr with the "wrsnsfr 'rue last move opens the Royal Flying Corps to women. ' Lady Gertrude Crawford is a Direc- tor of the Women's Branch of the Air Service and she brings to har work practical qualifications obtained along many lines of training. For one thing. she is' a master turner-one of the very few women who can qualify in this work. Proof of her title rests, among other things, on the fact that she actually carved an egg on a lathe. This feat is rarely accomplished by either men or women. Technical skill of the highest has come to Lady Gert- rude also having worked in a mnnition factory from the beginning of that work for women. Thousands of Iwo- men mechanicisns will find in Lady Gertrude s thoroughly capable super- visor. The world et large and pstrio tic women especially will watch the development of this new line of wo- men's' service with interest. _______.__-.__-- ' "Your wife seems busy these days," “Yee; she is to address s womens club." “Ah. working on her address? “`No; on her dress."
