June 29.—Tlre Mail and Empire this morning says thgl; Mfl Frank Newsome, the welLknown Ade- laide street law stationer, committed suicide in the Hotel St. Claire. Detroit, sometime during Monday night by shooting himself in the head. His life- less body was found yesterday morning by the employee of the hotel. Word was received in the city last evening of the young menls tragic death. The deceased, who was about 23 years of age. and tor some time been addicted to the use of intoxicants, to the detri- meat of his business usefulness. After a course of treatment, taken some months ago, it was thought that the appetite was overcome, and at his own request, young Newsome started on the road again for his father. He left the city last Wednesday for a trip on the northern route, and sent in good orders from Barrie and Oril-ia. Then he gwas not heard from for a couple of days, and the next word came in the form of a draft for the acceptance from London. Ont., a point which it had not been in- tended he should touch. His father thereupon decided to bring him home, and had intended leaving this morning for that purpose. \ sronr or THE TRAGEDY. The deceased arrived in Detroit on Sunday evening. and when he register- ed at the St. Clair was under the influ- ence ot liquor. On monday he was not seen about the hotel, but in the evening he returned. obtaining his overcoat, and pawned it at Louis Gros-lighfs shop, giving the name there "of Thompson. Grcsslight says the man was intoxicated then. Yesterday morning James CamphelLa porter in the hotehattempt. ed to arouse him about haltpast eleven, and failing to do so, broke open the door,to find the young mans body lying on the flour, cold in death, and clad in a nightshirt. HE LEFT NO WORD. The revolver had been held very close to the right temple. The bullet passed through the brain and rutat the top of the head. No note, letter, or anything was discovered in the room or among the effects which could throw any light upon the motive of the suicide. The body was tztken to Geist Bros. morgue. Coroner Dickson, of Detroit. will hold an inquest this afternoon. The dead man had $3.50 in his possession, and a note-book showing that the purpose o! his stay in Detroit was to visit his Winsor trade. Mr. W. B Newsome will leave this morning to bring the body home. E The young moire mother was prostrated when informed of the sad intelligence last evening. Frank was born and brought up in Toronto, and was educated at Wellesley school and Upper Canada College. Much sympathy is felt for Mr. and lrs New- soine in their trouble. Mr Newsoine is a native of Bedeque and Mrs New- of this city. The Coot of Poor Roads- The Ontario report of A. W.
