Misl Catherine Woodman with whom the lives. were two other niecee. Mrs. Webster Methei-all of Mill River, and Mrs. Cecil Barbour who, with her husband, motored from Cambridge, Mass. for the occasion. In the evening they were joined by Miss Woodmarfs rector. Rev. J. R. McMahon. members of St. Peter's W. A., Mr. John Webb of Woodstock who recently cele- brated. his ninety-third birthday. Mr. Lockerby of Fortune Cove who is eighty-seven. and other friends Refreshments served to the guests included a beautifully decorated birthday cake with ninety-five candles. Miss Woodmanwas born at thot. part of Alberton South known lo- cally as ”The Point". daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John D. Woodman. She and a brother. George. aged 86. now living in Portland. Oregon. are the only surviving members of a family of three girls and five boys. Mr. and Mrs. Woodman were born in England and before coming to Alberton had lived in Charlotte- town and in New Brunswick. From their native land they brought horses. cattle. seeds. etc., as well as household furnishings. At that time the means of winter trans- portation to and from the main- land was a boat on runners. Pas- sengers helped to haul the boat across and when they came to open water all jumped aboard. Mr. Woodman came to Alberton as Cunard's agent and one of his du- ties was to collect harbour dues from American vessels. Miss Wood- man can recall seeing so many American schooner: in port that one could walk across the harbour on their decks. In addition t.o his duties as Cunard's agent. Mr. Wood- man colicctcd quit-rents and lime" taxes. in thn'e days before the railroad was built he travelled to lcharlottetown on horseback to de- liver these collections and always carried a brace of pistols in case of attempted robbery.
