"After our luxurious week in London, we went back to Oxford 1, pick up our bikes. In the distance we heard a young boys' choir singing which sounded like the voices of angels. v-we cycled south through Marl- boro, and then west to Bath. I car came to- ward us with two women leaning out of the windows waving and yelling at us. They stooped and we recognized at once that they were Australians whom we'd met as hitch-hikers at a hostel in Scotland. They had hired ll car and were touring from north to south every day, with no thought of distance. We were so glad to see each other that we were like long lost relatives. "From Truro we made'our way down to Penzance. We had a funny experience there about losing a wallet. complaining to the police, and then finding it again. After much inquiring. we finally found a bed and breakfast place there. It was there that we learn- ed how hard-un the majority of the people in England really arc. tie cottage. which was built in 1250. "From Oowfold the other two went into London. but I went east to I-Ieathiield to visit Charlie Jen. kins. He and his wife have in lovely home. but they plan to sell it. Ililtd buy an Inn in Devon and run by Plane To Paris "The next morning we flew from from Heathrow airport to Paris. Our first glimpse of FIcIChnIElI were those to greet us at the plane. They were waving their arms and yelling to beat the hand. A bus took us from the airport to the Invaiides. on our way we passed the Eiffel Tower and the Arch of Triumph. We were thrill- ed to death and could hardly be- lieve we were really there. That afternoon we started out on foot to see the sights. We got lost when returning to our back street hotel. so we lounged in sidewalk cafes until we figured it out. This winter they will also have milk and potatoes on ration, and there will be practically no cool It will be the worst winter thcylll have had yet. as far as heating goes. She said they were even bet- ter off during the war with the food situation. "One of us suffered from sun- stroke in Penzance. but the other two cycled down to Land's End. It was quite disappointing be- cause it was so sooty and com- mercialized. There were ice cream stalls. with men yelling "YOU? first and last lick in England."
