Overtime Wins Game With four games remain- ing,the hockey Panthers are in good shape to grab one of the last two playoff po- sitions as a result of th- eir hard fought 5-3 over- time win against Mt.A. last Friday. The Panthers had to win this game, and from a fan's view, the Panthers and Mt-A. provided plenty of end to end action. - The Panthers started ; out fast with Bill Weathe- rbie, the acknowledged team leader, beating McComb on a beautiful set up from Luc Bedard. Greg Wight tied it up for the Mounties in the fi- rst period. Gene Power scored two consecutive goals in the second period to give the Panthers a 3-1 lead midway through the second. Before the period end- ed,Glen Furgoce narrowed the margin to one goal as he beat Steve Van Diest on a beautiful long shot to the longside. Things remained that way for the next fifteen Here are the standings to date in the A.I.H.L. S.M.U. UdemM Acadia Mt.A. UPEL._ UNB Sty PK Dal. MU. However, Mt.A. was not to be denied as Glen Furgoce scored his se- cond goal when he picked up a loose puck outside the Mt. A. blue line as he ste- pped out of the penalty box and skated in alone on Van Diest. This set the stage for the ten minute overtime period. For the first six min- utes, the Mounties were all over the Panthers but they were unable to score. With a little over two minutes remaining,Claude Lambert skated over the Mt.A. blue line and let go a blister- ing slapshot that handcuff- ed McComb and beat him to give the Panthers a 443 lead. With fifteen seconds remaining and the MT.A. go- altender out in favor of a sixth attacker Lambert let go a 150 foot shot that slid into the wide open net. The game ended in a scene of sheer jubilation as fans and players alike, went wild. That was the big game for the Panthers,as it kept them neck and neck with Mt.A. and gives them the advantage in their four game set,two to nothing with one game tied. This would be all important if both teams ended up in a tie for a playoff spot, the Panthers would gain the spot on the basis of that record. This weekend, the Pan- thers host the last place St. Thomas Tommies in a pair of games as the Winter Carnival takes the spot- light. These should be two wins for the Panthers un- less they get cocky and not take the Tommies ser- ijously. After that, the Pa- nthers go on the road for their final two games aga- inst Mt.A. and U.de Moncton. Why not plan to make the trip on the weekend of the 23rd of February? If you can't,Radio CSUR 700, on your AM dial, will carry live broadcasts of the games with Paul Durant and Mike Hennessy and/or Mike Duffy bringing you the play by play. ent e.N CANADA'S FINEST CIGARETTE WARNING The Department of National Health anc ‘Neitare advises that danger to health increases with amount smoked
