A Brave Act.—A Halifax despatch says: Two brothers, named Evan and Ave Negus, aged 14 and 15, belonging to Rastern Passage, rowed across the channel to McNab’s island to dig clame. The dory upset and the boys were precipitated into the water. Two delicate little girls, sisters, named Mary and Bridget Black, aged 12 and it years, witnessed the accidext from the island and immediately launched a boat and rowed to the assistance of the drowning boys. Evan clung to the boat and it was difficult to get at him, as the boat oscillated around, and the weight of the al. most unconscious boy kept part of it beneath the water, The little girls got Evan into the boat, and Mary Black, aged only 14, onde a desperate clutch at the other boy as he went dowa, and at arm's length below the surface, got hold of his hair; but his hair was cut short and there wae no hold, so he savk. Any one of these events will be well wor hy of patron onage. Hap a Bic Time.—The Halifax Chron- icle says : The delegates from P. E. Island and Nova Scotia spent a very enjoyable evening on Friday en route homewards, which will be long remembered by those who participated therein. Clever and amusing speeches were made by Mr. Davies, M. P., Premier Fielding and Peters, Attorney General Longley, A. B. McKenzie and others. Songs were sung and stories told, and at a late hour they parted, after singing ‘‘Auld Lang Syne” and ‘God Save the Queen.” Ratner Romantic.—A romantic mar- riage is to take place in Montreal next week, Madame Debellefeuille, widow of a well known colonel of that name, who died three years ago, and a Chicago man being the contracting parties. After the hus- band’s death the widow went to Chicago, and after corresponding in « matter of business with the wealthy westerner, affairs took a serious turn, photos were exchangel, and although the couple have never met they were soon engaged to be married. Madame Debellefeuille will see her future husband for the first time a few drys before the day fixed for the wedding. Dr. Brices’ Prepiction.—About twenty- five hundred people heard Rev. Dr. Charles A. Briggs, of Union Theological Seminary, New York, preach on Sunday evening last. It was expected from the subject selected, “Church Unity,” that the doctor would refer to his trial for heresy by the General Assembly ot the Presbyterian church, but he refrained from mentioning it. He pre- dicted that in time all Protestants and toman Catholics would be united, under one standard creed and break down the barriers which have in a great degree hindred the evangelization of ail nations.
