' ANNCUNCEMENTS Looking ahead to spring, there will be a Nature Slide Competition of P.E.I. pictures taken during 1978, for the May meeting. Bring your slides to the April meeting in order to give the judges time to make their selections. Prizes will be offered. Environment Days in May will require some articles for the news- papers. Please cast about for a topic and "let her roll". 1979 Membershi s are now due. Please pay up at the February meeting or mail your cEeques to P.O. Box 2346, Charlottetown. Membership rates are shown on the last page of this newsletter. Nominations for Representative Director to the Canadian Nature Federation will be discussed at the February meeting. The new director will replace Kathy Martin who has represented the society since 1975. The new term of office will begin in June 1979, after the Annual General Meeting in Montreal. Final Sell for Nominations for Provincial Director to the Canadian Nature Federation. Diane Griffin has been a Provincial Director for Prince Edward Island for the past six years. Her term of office is up in May 1979 and she is not eligible for re-election. Any CNF member in good standing may nominate another CNF member for this position. They must obtain the consent of the nominee and two other CNF members and send this to the CNF secretary: Mr. Eric Tull c/o Canadian Nature Federation, Suite 203, 75 Albert Street, Otumm,IGP an Ideas for 1979 Pro'ects. The society has some funds available for projects during 19 9. Please bring ideas to the February meeting. Two ideas have been forwarded already: 1) Reprinting Francis Bain's book on The Natural History of Prince Edward Island, 1890. 2) Erecting an observation platform for birdwatching at Indian River Wildlife Sanctuary. Natural History Society 1978 Annual Meeting with the exception of one director, all officers of the Natural History Society were re—elected at the January annual meeting. The executive is as follows: Past President, Eleanor Lowe; President, Winston Johnston; Vice—president Rosemary Curley; Secretary—treasurer, Margaret Mallett; Assistant Secretary-treasurer, Helen Duffey; Directors, Andre Lavoie and Marguerite Wheatley (new director). To the regret of the members, Kathy Martin will resign as editor of the Newsletter in May.
