JEUDI LE 8 AOÛT, 1899. LA CAUSE DU CANCER Paris.——On publie d’intéress- ants détails au sujet des récentes découvertes du docteur Bra à pro- pos du cancer. Sur des fragments de bois moit, principalement sur des morceaux de pommiers, le doc- teur Bra a trouvé des parasites sem- blables à ceux du cancer. Il a obte- nu du gouvernement la permission d’inoculer des arbres de la forêt de Meudon avec la bacille du cancer humain. Six mois après, le docteur Bra a constaté que ces arbres é- taient pourris à certains endroits et que les parties malades étaient sè- ches. Les arbres inoculés étaient principalement des hêtres, des éra- bles et des sycomores. Un orme est mort du bacille du cancer qu’on lui avait inoculé. Le docteur Bra ne conclut pas de ces faits que le cancer communiqué aux animaux ou végétaux soit cau- sé par un parasite, mais il est con- vaincu de l'extrême similitude qui existe entre plusieurs maladies des plantes et certaines maladies des animaux.
