Margery Daw I'm in love but I’ve never told her, Never told the maiden I love ; I lie in the long green grase and behold her, As she swings all day in the bows above, I'ma student with toil o’er laden, And a student ever should books prefer, But she's such a darling dainty maiden, My thoughts go swinging away with her. See saw ! Mergery Daw! Up in the apple tree Margery swings ; And I[, lying under, Watch her and wonder What is the ditty that margery sings. And she goes swinging, and I go slaving, Turning the leaves of a musty book— tut surely that was her white hand waving, And surely that was my dirlings look, A perfect fortress « f books I sit in Ethics, economy, politics, law,— But all the pages I vow were written By that little philosopher, Margery Daw. See saw! Margery Da ! Up in the apple tre (Margery swingiog, And I, lying under, Watch her and wonder What is the ditty that Margery sings. The lieht is fading, the day grows older, And now the westering sun is gone, And Margery, I no more behold her; Iu the deep cool grass I lie alone For Margery was a suobeam only, And I was a fool for all my pains; Rat whenever I'm sad and whenever I'm loaely Back comes Margery, back again. See saw! Margery Daw! Up in th» apple tree Margery swings, For “Life’s a dream, And love's a shadow!” And that isthe ditty Margery sings _~—com + A Flea for Horses. Payment to siogers has sometimes taken an odd form. When Ml!. Zeile,a vocalist from the Theatre Lyrique at Paris, was making a professional tour round the worldsome years ago, she gave a concert in the Society Islands. She agreed to sing an air from “Norma” and a few other songs, and was to get a third of the rece ipte. When counted, the pi ima donna’s share was found to consist of three pigs, twenty-three turkeys, fortv-four chickens, 5,000 cocoanuts, besides a quantity of bananas, lemons and oranges mea Herald. os To Play Postoffice. For a Postofficemany good-sized card-board box will do for this pur pose. The lid should be fastened to it, so that when it is stood up it will open up like a cupboard door; it must be closed by means of a button and a loop of elastic. In the top ofthe box, as it stands up, and in the upper end of the door, a slit must be cut out about an inch wide and from five to six inches long, so as to allow of the small parcels, but yet not large enough to admit of a child’s hand, while on the door of the postoffice should be written the times of the post. Most children are fond of writing letters to one another, and this will, of course, give rise to a grand manufacture of note paper, envelopes and postal cards,.nd the y will call forth all their in genuity in designing and coloring movograms and crests for their note paper and envelopes, An envelope must be taken carefully to picees ‘to form a flat pattern ; then those cut from it have to be folded, gammed together, and a touch of gum put on the tip of the flap ; a monogram to correspond with the note puper must be drawn on it, and finally, they must be done up io peut packets, say a half dozen in each. It is wonderful what occupation this postbox will afford where there is a large party of children; of course, a postman must be chosen, and a bag must be made for the ] tters, and so on. > - The Prince of W sat eats clams) direct from the shell, which he holds in his hand. This valuab!e experience should be sufficient evidence of theiy durability, which is accounted for in the following :—It has, instead of a Lined Fire Box, two heavy Currugated Cylinders, which obviaie the expe nse connected with all Square Cooking Stoves of being compelled to renew Linings and Grates, at least once or twice every year, The heat being radia'ed from the Cylin- ders to tho floor, where most needed, overcomes a_ serious objection to all kinds of ordinary Coal Cooking Stoves. The Oylinders are situated directly under the cover holes, and a fire may ‘be made in one or be th, thus adapting it for use either in winter or summer, with equal satisfaction, besides effecting a great saving to fuel. I have also attached the PATEN’ r TELESCOPIC OVEN to all my Elevated Oven Wood Stoves, such as the Waterloo, Niagara, Star, &c , causing the thousands using them to exclaim— \\y Stoves are worth TEN DOLLARS MORE than the same kind made by other foundries, The trade and retail purchasers will please bear in mind the fact that although a great advantage is claimed for my own Oven above all others, they cost no more, and being the sole manufacturer and patentee, no other f.undry can ‘supply.
