The present war has emphasized the
need of Efficiency. A writer in the To-
ronto Globe pointed Ollt “lhll UW |110"
marvellous thing about military or-
ganization is the efficiency with which
each part works towards a common
end. From the private to the Gellelill
every man subordinates his personal
welfare to tlie welfare and success of
the army as s whole. All the achieve-
'ments of industry and science are used
to promote the caiise, and ungrudging
service is the compelling ideal. At the
present time it is our supreme duty to
be efficient and to co-operate for the
common good.”

work and to temperance work in the
Sunday Schools and we will have to
admit that we are only playing at it.
Writing the District Superintendents
I urged continual effort and pledge
signing. One of our greatest hopes is
in pledging the children. Professor
september, ’ |James says "the first twelve years
the mind is a sponge. Fill it full of
impressions and facts of value. The
first years are the memory years nge
and ideas impressed then are not for-
gotten.”
To get the names of the Sunday
School superintendents throughout the
island. sixteen secretary treasurers
and eleven ti istrict temperance super-
intendents wcre written. Thirteen
Sec. Treasurers replied. Two of
these to say they were not able to give
the names of the eleven Temperance
Superintendents replied. Some of the
remaining names were procured from
the Provincial Secretary Mr Jardine.
and some he could not give as several
riistrlcts have not sent any reports to
him for several years. These condi-
tions denote a lack of efficiency.
After getting all the names possible,
156 reply post cards, similar to last
year, were mailed.

This is no ordinary foe we are
fighting. Let ns see what he has done
lately and have sonic testimony as to
his strength.

put together. Drink is the greatest

Major General Samuel Hughes had
promised that alcoholic liquors would
not he supplied to the Canadian sold-
iers and that they should "return home
as clean and manly as when they
went."
