4 UPEI News The Cadre ¢ 9 February 1999 Continuing efforts of the UPEI Presidential Search Committee BY SARAH MURPHY Last fall, a joint com- mittee consisting of UPEI Board of Governors (BoG) and Senate representatives was elected to undertake a search for a new president UPEI. Two open forums were held on Nov. 19 and Nov. 23. The members of the commit- tee welcomed the UPEI and Island community to put for- ward selection criteria for the ongoing search for a new president. The Deadline for appli- cation and nominations of candidates was Jan. 22. “The committee is now in the process of reviewing the application and shorten- ing the list,” said Debbie McLellan, Chair of the De- partment of Family and Nu- tritional Science, and co- chair of the Presidential Search Committee. “At this point in the process, the list is confiden- tial,” added McLellan. “ We hope to have a short list of candidates ready to bring on campus in early March.” The chosen candidates will give a public presenta- tion and will be meeting with various members of the uni- versity community in addi- tion to having an in-depth in- terview with the committee. Although little has been said about much of the proc- ess, the committee is confi- dent that it is proceeding smoothly. “We are on schedule and things are going well,” says McLellan. Final candidates should be ranked in April and May according to the selection cri- teria established by the mem- bers of the search committee. The new president will be appointed in July.
