J. iR.onniel .'tiacDonalti. 69, died Wednesday night in the Charlottetown Hos- pital after a brief illness. A na- iive of Antlgonish, N. S., he came here in 1914 as a telegraph lines- man and then served with the ifanadian National Teiegraphs un- l.l his retirement approximately f,Ve )'C8I"S BRO. ' During all his years sin this i-ity he was one of the leaders in xp0rLS, especially hockey and football, as he encouraged count- I553 youths and helped tiiem in many ways. All his life he stress- rd the importance of manliness ;md playing the game at all iiiiies. Clean sport and recreation were his beliefs and he alway-3 iviideavoured to instill them in all the boys he aided or encouraged. The late Mr. MacDonald had a iiost of friends he had made over IIIP years. In recent years he liad been -one of the strongest qupporters of the islanders Hoc- key Club. but long hefore he stziunchly supported the Alleg- xeits of another era when they ii.-iitied with the Suinmersido i'rystals. ' lie was a member of the Hair" Klame Society and of the Knights of Columbus in the Charlotte- town Council. The latter society will attend the funeral in a body.
