He had taken the trouble to ascertain the facts, which were as follows: in 1912 the Government col- , iscted $6,018; in 1918, $5,853; in 10,14, $5,255. There was quite a difference between $5.255 and $20,000, but of course the "Patriot" sometimes took short steps to things. , Then he had noticed in the article also quite a number of bridges in his district re- ferred to as not being finished. That was quite true. They had erected some seven or eight bridges in the di trict, but they could not be ex- pifcted to accomplish in three or four short years_whi1t the other ,party was not able to do in twenty years. lie thought a great deal had been clone for the farmers oi' the country through the Department of Agricul- ture. When the present Government came into power the Department ex- isted almost in name only. Now it was a real and substantial benefit to the farmers. Whereas formerly the lads had to be sent to Trilro to acquire fheir agricultural education. and only ll limited numbers. At the present time-they were receiving the best in- struction from the short courses riglitl in the province. He referred to the agricultural buildings in Charlotte- t__own and Summerside and spoke of t.lle advantages which would accrue fromthelr acquisition by t.be Govem- ment. They were the property of thc Government. and unlike some of the assets which the Leader of the Op- position ,had spoken of as having been obtained' by the Liberals, these assets were not going to be left behind un- paid for. What they had bought they had paid for. The speaker also spoke nf the benefits to be derived from tho supply of mussel mild to_ the farmers. In regard to the Education Depart- ment, lie said that the member for Cardigan had 'dealt with that in such u thorough manner that he would not say anything on the subject, except that the statements of the Opposition 'Loader in reference to the Department had been conclusively proved to be absolutely unfounded.
