JOHN REGINALD MICDONALD The many relatives and friends of the late Reggie MacDonald, a one-time resident of West St. Peters, P. E. 1., were shocked and saddened when the distressing news of his death by accidental drowning, in Toronto Bay, 0nt., during the afternoon of l“ebr.‘:iry 24. was received. He was born at West St. Peters, 25 November, 1922, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Aeneas C. MacDonald who now reside at Georgetown. In December, 1942, Reggie joined the army and trained at Beach Grove and Aldershot. He proceeded overseas in June. i943, landed in England where he un- derwent a short period of train- ing before being sent to North Africa to complete training in preparation for joining the Can- adian Forces in Italy. In Decem- ber. 1943, during his period of training in Italy he met with an accident which almost cost him his life. He was on the dangerous- ly ill list for more than a month. and only slight hope was en- tertained for his recovery. How- ever. being of robust constitiiiion he survived. He had been hos- pitalized for 18 months. during which time it was found nec- essary to remove his left eye. After hi. discharge from mili- tary Hospi al he spent several months with his parents who then resided at West St. Peters. He went to Nova Scotia. and later moved to Toronto. where several of his brothers and sisters re- sided. Besides his parents the follow- ing six I)l'OIlIel'S and four sisters remain: Cecil in New Glasgow, N. 5.; Merlin, London, 0nt.; Pe- ier, who gave one year's service in Korea with the R.C.R., now with the Royal Canadian Regi- ment Petawawa; Raymond. She was born at West Covehead on July 27. 137.3, the youngest and last member of the family of the late Donald and Amelia Buntain Mai-Miliaii. On April 30, 1902, she was unit- ed in marriage to Mr. Oliver Le- Page of Rustico, where they re- sided for 39 years. Shortly after the death of her husband she moved to Charlottetown. Mrs. LePage had not enjoyed good health for a number of years having suffered with arth- ritis. But she was always able to be around about her household duties until six months ago when she was stricken with a heart condition. She bore her illness with great fortitude. She was of a quiet dis- position and was never heard to murmer or complain. She was a member of the Unit- rd Church of Canada. and, when able. was is regular attendant. The funeral service held in the United Church at New Glasgow was conducted by Rev. W. F. Sawdon. assisted by Rev. Frank MacLcan and Rev. A. E. Piercey. The hymns sung were: "The Lord's My Shepherd." "Nearer [My God to Thee," and “Forever ‘with the Lord." I Pallbearers were: Messrs. Al- lison Holmes. Brent MacMillan. lteucl l-cl’agc, Warfield Orr, Granville Buntain and Blair Rol- llngs.
