Tue trial of Joseph Hortell, for murder, was commenced at Lunenburg, N. S., on Monday. ‘The prisoner, in January, assaulted Simon O’Farrell, a constable, for coming on the prisoner’s premises to deliver hay sold under execution, striking him on the head with a formidable club, which. was produced in court. Fracture of the base of the skull, causing death some eight week afterwards. A member of the Moncton Police Force named Kearns, contemplates attempting the feat of walking 100 miles in 24 consecutive hourr, on a tanbark track. Mr, Kearns is a large man and strong, and apparently full of power and endurance. In August, 1876, he rowed 10 consecutive hours in Worcester, Mass., on a wager.
