Wuar Micur Have Been a Fata Acci- prext.-—Daniel McKie, a young lad of about 13 years of age, son of Mrs. (widow) Daniel McKie, of Bay Fortune, met with “quite a serious accident at his house on Sunday last. A day or two before, he had been given a cartridge which he supposed had been ex- ploded. He placed it on the end of his slate pencil. On the evening of the accident he took down his slate from the wall and com- menced ciphering. The pencil did not work quite to his satisfaction. Striking the cartridge end of it sharply on the slate, the cartridge, which turned out to be a partially emptied dynamite cartridge, exploded, carry- ing away the top of his thumb and forefinger, and shattering the bones of the middle finger badly. He was also hurt about the face. The explosion is described as being something terrific. The table was overturned, the lamp was blown into atoms, and the house itself shaken. None of the other inmates were injured, though some of them had a very narrow escape. The» injured boy had his wounds dressed next day. “This accident should prove’ a warning to many of our youths, to have nothing further to do with cartridges, whether supposed to’ be exploded or ndt.
