Messrs. Msrsden, of. Sheffield. have oxcuted an order for a pair of skates for the Queen, which are worthy of the roy- al feet. In lieu of straps across the in- step, each skate is provided with u patent-leather boot. 'I‘hese boots are firmly attached by a strap of plated silver to the clogs. which are of satin-wood highly polished. The skate-irons termin- ate in front in the appropriate and grace- ful form ofa swan, and both sides are elegantly chased. The cup that forms the receptacle for the heel is silver plat- ed. and chased with the design oftlie rose. thistle, and shamrock. 'I‘he same design is embroidered in white silk upon the black patent-leatlier, to which it forms a pleasing contrast. 'I‘lie size has been regulated by a boot worn by the Queen. Mt-ssrs. lllarstleii have previ- ously had the honour of making several pairs of skates for Prince Albert and the royal children, btit this is the first evid- once we have had of the Queen herself setting the example to womankind of ac- quiring a graceful accomplishment liitlier- to confined almost exclusively, in this country at least, to the sterner sex.— Church and State Gazette.
