FEES Sir.—I was rather surprised at the recent request made to lower P. W. No P. E. I. students. to my know- ledge, have ever gone there for their First and Second years of university study. Our students usu- ally attend one of the Maritime un- iversities or McGllI University in Montreal, where the fees for prac- tically the same course are very much higher than at P. W. C. as the following extracts from the Unlvers‘ty calendars show: Acadia-Arts and Science (includ- ing Registration fee) $205.00; also a laboratory fee of $12.00 per science subject of which there must be at least one course in each of the first two years of university work. Hence country stu- dents get two years of university education at P. W. C. for $125.00 . which would cost them from $370.00 to $470.00 elsewhere. Thus country student. get their education at P. W. C. for less than ha.f what they would pay in other institutions wltile cit-y students pay very little more than half. Furthermore, the higher costs of board, extra railway fare. etc., would entail an expend“. ui-e almost if not twice as great as country students now pay in Char. lotletown. I do be- lieve that the province should pro-l vde free high school education for those who wish to take advantage of same, but under present con- ditions only those passing the lentrance examinations are elig- ible to complete the high courses. Isn't it high that the ordinary individual should g receive a great deal of consideration educationally as well as the privi- leged few who are going to become ‘ lawyers. physicians, clergyman, , engineers. etc.?
