A Ber or Five Years Sranpine.—We are informed that five years ago, Mr. Thos. E. Smith, late Station Agent at Point du Chene, and Mr. Robert Moffatt, of Dal- housie, contracted a bet of $8, Mr. Smith betting that the next Governor General of this Dominion would be either in the person of the Marquis of Lorne, or some member of the Royal family. The money was de- posited with Mr. Wm. Weldon, of the Wel- don House, who was to pay interest on the deposit until the appointment of the present Governor-General, and then hand the prin- cipal and interest to the winner. This Mr. Weldon did last night in his hotel, now in Moncton, handing over $10 to Mr. Smith.
