vatiouists are busily collecting for the
fund which it is hoped willexceed the
$23,034.00 raised by a similar effort in 1900.
It is always a pertinent question where
does the money go to? At one time we
believed this fund was devoted almost
exclusively to the extension of foiegn
missions and openingup of new countries,
but this is no longer the case, for the
greater amount raised is spent in this
country itself. This is as it should be.
The Salvation Army is doing splendid
work in its Industrial Homes, Rescue and
Maternity Homes, Me n‘s and Women’s
Shelte-rxestablished in different countries
in *North America, while, the world over.
the Army has about 500 similar refugee
for the fallen and destitute. The er -
thusiasm with which the Salvationists
themselves enter into the Self-Ienial
week is iemarkable, and it would be nard
to find a wearer of the uniform who had
notin addition to pecuniary eacrilice, de-
nied himself sonie luxery or partial
necessity of food or clothing by way of dis-
cipline. The Self-Denial Fund is consider'
ably augumented by assistance from out-
side friends far and near, and we are con-
fident this worthy effort. will not befor-
gotten by tho.-e who are in a position t
assist. We wish the Army every success
in their elfort. _
