The lobster fishery, which is the most important, accounted for the greater part of the fisherinen's earnings. The value of the catch amounted to about seventy-five per cent of the value of all fish landed in the Province. In Kings and Queens Counties the catch was larger than in 1953. but in Prince County the catch was down. A catch of 73.874 hundredweight was taken with a value of 31.938,- 281 Clams and quahauga were taken in smaller quantities as these shell- fish are not too plentiful: produr-- tion being limited in most areas to the yearly growth. There is a good demand for these shellfish with good prices. Oysters were taken in smaller quantity. but as this report covers only a part of the oyster fishing season any increase or decrease shown is not an indication of the state of this fishery as the yearly production figures may show an entirely different picture. The de- mand for oysters is good with prices holding up well. Scallops were taken in about the same quantity as in 1953. They were taken. mainly, from a bed situated in the Northumberland Strait off Buctouche. ation Tuesday. All her friends wish her a speedy recovery.
