(Continued froin page 2 ) The mover of the draft address (Mr. Peters) said that chees: -making leads to prosperity. If this be eo credit for this proe- perity must be givea the Conservative Government. The mover further said thatthe farmers could not sell their pro- ducts—this in the face of all the glowing promises they made as te what they would accomplish if they obtair ; The promised markets have not been opened up have bad to acopt the policy,of their predecessors in office. We have a free market in the Old Couatry, and no doubt we would have had preferen tial trade if Bir Wilfrid Laurier whea he went to England had nct given the whole case away. He proved false to the trust the people reposed in him in that respect. If he had not done so our farm products would to day have a prefer- ence ip the English markete. : Mi. Shaw then took up the dairying €«j pow er ! Government industry, and claimed that the Domin- | ion Government should bear the} expense 8 dairy inspector for this province. The Dominion Gov- ernment is not} fo'lowing in the footsteps oftheir predecessors in the matter of fostering dairying. Dairying was inaugu. rated and fostered by the late government. The Leader has told us that 60 per cent. of the cheese consumed in the Old Coun try and 4 per cent. of the butter is from Cansda and tlat weshould pay more at- tention to butter waking. But the Liberal Government paid moreattention to dairy~ loggin Ontario and Quebec than in the Lower Provinces. There they hare established cold storage on land aud steamers. The farmers there will now go more extensively into batter making and cheese will likely advance. Therefore onr farmers should stick io cheese. We are promised cold storage, but how long are these promises to remain unfulfilled W here the assistance promised by the Dominion Government last year§f? $890 was voted with a definite promive from the Liberal Government that cold storage would be established. How can they account for going back on that promise? He hoped the government would see that we get justice at least ic the shape of cold storage and direct steam CCM mubication. There is a paragraph in the address which the mover aod seconder both over- looked. Itiwin regard to fruit growing. This ia a most important matter and should receive the attention of the Goversn- ment. Speaking of pork packing he expressed the hope that the enterprise of Mr. Kaiten~ bury would be substantially rewarded. The ent«rprise was in the intereste of the province and it will, no doubt, prove a great benefit. ‘There was reeentiy an official delegation to Ottawa. But the delegates got no money. There is @ great difference regard- ing the amount of our cleims, and we are just as far fro getting Gur claims adjuat~ edasever. The business men of this Province. placed no deperdance in the Gov- ernment delegates, and sent representatives of their own Summerside also senta delegate in the person of Mr. Bell. Both delegations arrived in Ottawa together, but the Gowernment delegates were eight days behind the others in getting a hear ing from the Dominion Cabinet. [ere is uo reference in the epeech to exhibitions. Arethey to be done away is with? There is nothing sad regarding the increased accommodation at the A<vlum either. Whyis it that the new wing bas sit been bmlt when Leader said the money was provided? They cot the Temporary Loans Act passed under this pretext. But with the proverbial dishon- esty of those gentlemen not one step has heen taken to erect the building. The greatest deception has been practiced. Again ‘he Land Office was to be ab olistved. Their jbattle cry was return we will get $2 509,000 from Outawa and ward off taxation fur all time to come. They differ, however, as to the amount of our claim. The bon. member from New Lenlon says there ia nothing left. In 1893 the Peters Governmen: sent a memorial which claimed $2,569,807 The late Leader was evidently ashamed of this claim and syppressed the memorial. if it were vot for fhe Legislative Council the memorial would not have seen the ~ us and light. The late Leacer asked for an arbitration: but is that such will be given when it likely in asking man nized by the Dominion. Mr. Peters, Jetter to Sir Davies | for arbitration, suggested that a | sho was nota resident cf this province be } our his Louis representative on the arbitration. | Did Hon. Mr. Peters at that time intend to Jeave for the west? History shows what results have been obtained when non-residents are appointed on trations. He hoped that if ever the matter came to arbitration this province would be represented by an Islander. He hoped that the Public Accounts would betabled at an early date. They should be here now in accordance with the Act passed tne first year of the Peters Ad- ministration. “STRIFE” AT SOURIS. J. Cheverie, who also took the part of “Squash” a friend of the Jucge. Mr. A. F. Lavie gave a good representation of ‘| hompkins,” another easy-going friend. The comedy parts were taken by Mr. Ern McCormack and the Messrs Paquet. Mr. McCormack as “Julius” made a decided hitandthe rivalry between he and his brother servant, was very amusing. Mr. L. F. Paquet as “Neb” brought down the house whenever he appeared and his songs were very much appreciated. Mr. Wm. J. never failed to crezte roars of iaughter. Miss Annie Walch gave an excellent rendi- | tion of the part of “Laura” the Judg. ’s ward, and Miss Nellie Mitchell as “Mrs Hausel” portrayed truly the actions ot the “vener- able old lady.” A very lively part was that of “Dolly” a maid-servant, which was taken by Miee Sophia Paquet. In ibis part, Miss Paquet was, as usual, up to the standard and the mannerip which she controlled the “coons” would have done credit to a professional.
