The following-is his address. Mr. President, Reverend Gentlemen |and Friends of the Bible Society of Prince Edward Island: It is with exceptional pleasure that I have the privilege and this opportunity of welcoming you on behalf of our people to the Annual Meeting of this venerable and sac- red organization. ' After the many social cares and vlnce or community, it is indeed re- freshing w be present at o. nlenfing foremost and where first things arc first. We live not by bread‘ alone, but by cvery‘ word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God, and under a beneficient and merciful Providence the spiritual life of this Province should never be lost sight of. for it is righteousness clone that exalt- |eth a nation. As King David says in the psalms. “Therefore my heart is glad and my flesh also shall lest in hope." I cannot conceive cf any greater benefit. or wider blessing to man- kind than the work of disseminat- ing the Holy Bible, in rhich your Sccietyis engaged. The Biole is not only the record of past revelation, it is a source of continuing revela- tions. It is the book to which men have turned for refreshment and stimulus from generation to gener- ation. The Book from which they have drawn inspiration for the new problems and tasks of their own day. . - In the Bible from beginning to end the central figure upon which all writers of law, history, poetry l7 and prophecy converge is Jesus Christ the Saviour of the world. He expounded in scripture the things concerning himself. and the Divine plan for man's redemption. The Bible led to reformation, the foreign missionary movement, and it has been the inspiration of the race for ages. It is a book to which all go for the good of their souls and for the advancement of mankind. No other single influence has contributed to the Christian life as the dnily read- grace for fallen people. "Thou truest friend man ever ‘ I _men, be confined w the Bible.
