Walter Jones, Minister of Education; Hon. W. F. A. Stewart, Minister of Agriculture; and Dr. L. W. Shaw, Director of Education. Both the Premier and Mr. Stewart emphasized the necessity of the young farmers acquiring some technical knowledge without which, they stated, the young farmer could not make s. success of his calling. Both stressed the fact. that the course was not. ex- haustive but both dweiled on the importance of thc young farmer securing some elementary knowl- edge of veterinary practices, field and animal husbandry. etc. if he were to be in a position to face with confidence the complex agri- cultural problems which, they said, Yesterday, Premler J. PRINCE EDWARD ISLANDEIF DIES IN CALIFORNIA-—The death of Jamel Theophilul Judson a na- tive of Alexandra, Prince Edward Island, occurred Dec. 18, 1948 ati San Gabriel, Calif. The late Ml. Judson was in his 79th year. He was the eon of George J. Judson and Thankful Caroline Wood. After leaving this Province he went to| New Bedford, Mass, where he- learned the trade of carpentry and which he still followed up until‘ his death.‘ In 1939 he last visited his native Province. Surviving are‘ his wife, the former Amy S. Macy of New Bedford, and four daugh- ters and a son, all of California, a number of sisters and brothers liv- ing in Mass. also survive. The death occurred at Long Beach, Calif, on January B. 1949 of J. Douglas MacIntosh, young- est. son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Maclntosh of Victoria. PEI. He was a veteran of the First. World War and never fully regained his health after being badly gassed during that conflict. His funeral was held at Santa Ana. Calif. on January 12th and he was laid to rest beside his brothers Whitfield and Ray who predeceased him by several years. Surviving are three sisters: Mrs. Abner Howatt, Victoria, P.E.I.. Mrs. Joseph Irvine, Huntington Beach. Calif.. Mrs. Stetford Mul- lins, Hampton, PEI, and three brothers: Jack. Santa Ana. Calif, Mujpr, Puente, Calif. and Everett of Portland, Oregon. At the January meeting of thc Trustee Board of the Protestant Orphanage, Mrs. H. S. Henderson, Chairman of Finances, giving her 22nd. annual financial statement. reported: Total receipts of $30,256.32 for the year 1948. Of this total $10,980.63 was received from Estates and placed in the Endowment Fund. Although the expenses for the year reached an all-time high, it is worthy of note that for the 72nd. consecutive year the Orphanage showed a surplus. The meeting was prelided over by the chairman of the Board, Mr. W. A. Stewart and wsl well ab; tended. His death followed n comparatively brief illness. On Saturday he suffered a stroke and had been critically ill since. Previously, for several months he had been in failing health. Senator Robinson, although ltill a young man, had an active -II‘GSI‘ and leaves behind a long illt of accomplishments. He served over- seas in two World Wars, was May- or of Summerside for two terms and a member of the Prince Ed- ward Island Legislature. before he was appointed to the Senate. In addition he carried on various business activities. Senator Robinson was a Ion of the late Mr. and Mrs. George W. Robinson of Wllmot Valley and was educated at the Summerside High School and Commercial Col- lege. Shortly after he left school he went to Western Canada where he worked for several years al an employee of the Union Bank of Canada. He returned to Summerlide In 1914 on the outbreak of the First World War and was one of the first to enlist from the town. join- ing the 2nd Battery, Canadian Heavy Artillery. He went overseas in 1915 and served until the end of the war. During the latter pert of the conflict he was attached to headquarters at Rouen, France.
