The speaker told' of meetings held when the build- ing committee was appointed and later when it's findings were sub- mitted to the raiepayers and ap- proved. and of it's good fortune in engaging Mr. David Campbell as architect and M.l'. Ken Bremnler as into-ria decorator. He said the building is .50 fi. long by 28 ft. vridc-.4, with a main floor 26 by 30 and R stage 18 by 28, with is basement which will he finished as n kitch- en and furnace ronm who're a furn- ace will later be installed. The total cost of the building was 54,4-67.00. Some lumber from the old hall was used and a great deal of labour donated. Ratepayers contributed cash, lumber and lab- our, the Women's Institute donated 31269.19 ( ,.plause). and debentur- ,es were sold in the district to the value of 31750.0(). To complete pay- ment of all bills and to create a balance on hand. sufficient to pay for material and wages to camp- late the building. S-300.00 was loan- ed by Col. Johnstone and Mr. Mac- Leog. "As it now stands. we owe ourselves around 32800.00 or in other words, the building is more than half paid for." Colonel Johnstone went on to thank all who gave cash, lumber and labour, and expressed apprec- iation of the other members of the the building committee, Mrs. Har- old Maclcod, Secretary. Mr. H. B. M&CI.oCOd. Treasurer, Mrs. David Campbell, and Mrs. Robert Stav- ert. who were never too busy to take time for the many calls made up- on them. Contributions on behalf of the community, the chairman thanked former citizens, who contributed generous gifts. The handsome stage curtain.,beaut- ifully made by Mrs. Wilfred Pick- ering of Clinton, was given com- plete by Messrs Joseph and Fred Davison, Kensington. The two lamps in the building were given by Mrs. Bertha Brander, Char- lottetown and Mr. J. B. Mlillman, Kensington. The name sign is to be the gift of Messrs Elmo: Paynter and L. A.
