A. McDonald, of thiscity. Mr. McDonald has just been granted a patent upon his invention. The patent is upen an itmpreve- menton boets and shees, and is allowed ‘* (1st) In a boot or shoe an insole, having a channel on its under side in which is coiled a spring, such insole being per- ferated te form a communication between such channel and the interior of the boot er shoe, as set forth. (2nd) Ina boot or shoe the combination of the perforat- ed insele, the channel between the Pseles, communicating with a vertical passage within ihe counter, termuinat- ing im an air inlet opening, and a continuous ceiled spring; all substantially as descibed and shewn.” Of the practical value and utility ef this invention there ean be no question and it was very highly spoken of by ex-commissioner Gen. Spear, who secured for Mr. McDenald his letters patent. Itisa well-knewn fact that the Jack of proper ver tillation of the feet is a source of much ill-health, Tt is claimed that *‘ MceDonald’s Acme Boet ard Shos will do away with this, eval, nly is it claimed, but demonstrat Ventilater ” and net a ed to be a fact. Perspiring feet with the attendant diseomferts may now be- come a thing of the past. For years there have been efforts nade to accomplish this end, but no arrangement has been success- fully effected until now. it leoks as if the inventer weuld make a rich thing eut of bis discovery. Particularly is his patent effi- cacions in the case of rubber beots, the system: of ventilation, by a eurrent of air froin the outside flowing te the bettoim of the foot, being perfect. In this direction especially has he presumably struck a bon- anza. Mr. McDonald applies the inven- tion to all the fine werk he turns out at his shep. On Saturday the McDenald Boot and Shoe Ventilating Company was organized in this city. The follewing list of eiticers was chosen; C. F. Kittredge, President ; G. W. Berry, Treasurer; C. E. Littlefield, Secretary ; and ©, F. Kittredge, John 38. Case, G: W. Beiry, D. A. McDonald, C. FE. Littlefield, of Rockland, Jehn C. Leven- saler, of Thomaston, John H. Osguod, of Chelsea, Mass., Directors. The capital steck was fixed at $500,008. Lmmediate steps will be taken te place the invention prominently befor the public. —-—- ++ “ae +--+ MacpaLen Istaxps.—A despatch from Magdalen Islands ria Pictou says :—The winter here has been unusually long and severe, and the poor fishermen have suiffer- ed & good deal for want of provisions.
