from Aid J. B. Hamm the large brick
building in Union street whsle he now
conducts his livery stable business. The
company for a year or more has lieennegc-

Saturday evening at the Victoria Hotel
he said business conditions throuR\1°\1L
Canada, und in fact, the world are good,
hut in the United States there are indica-
tions that the prosperity wave is beginn-
ing to recede. In his own line of opera-
tions, carriage mnuufactory, he says the
companys works are kept busy. They do
business all over Canada and are extend-
ing more that ever in the Northwest.
They ilnd demand for the carriages as far
away as New Zealand and Australia and
business with South Africa, which was
intcrrupied bythe war, ls now picking up
again.
Mr. McLoughlin is not inclined to exto
himself but in taking over business
matters he said that in 1869 he established
his business in Enniskillen (Oni-) With
-one apprentice. He contrasted conditions
in those days and the years followluil
ywhen everything was hand work, with
lthe present operations. After about nine
years he moved to Oshawa und there the
works have steadily grown until DOW
they employ 425 men in the factory Mid

lin has been mayor of Oshawa and takes

NECROLOGY.
Frertownis called upon to mourn the
demise of one ofthe most respectable of
hor oltisens in the person of Mrs. Aasar
T. Reeves, who passed away at her home
on the 12th sfior s painful illness which
sho endured with Christian fortitude. The
deceased was the youngest driughtcr cf
f/he luie Donull MacDonald of Roie Val-
ley and wasin hor 43rd year. Although
ailing for some time the feelings of nature
claimed their part und high hopes of her
recovery were entertained until very
recently when dangerous symptoms in-
dicating onncer of the stomach set in
provlngfstal. When it became known
thatrfcovery was hopeless she accepted
the conditions with Christian resignation
to the Divine Omnipotont who can heal
the wounds he gives and point the grief-
rvorn to scents beyond the grave. -

And fear no withering blast."
She was possessed with many charm-
Ing qualities of mind and manner and by
her kind, sympathetic and nliilautrophic
nature has laft lasting mementoes on the
hearts of those with whom she cane in
contact; and by whom her death will he
sincerely mourned. She was an active
and aarnest worker ln every department
of church-work. “Favour is deceitful and

feareth the Lord she shall be prsisedi"
In the way in which she adorned the dif-
fereutphssos olllfe, as daughter, wife
and mother, it is not the purpose ofn
brief article to treat That the deceased lady
was beloved and the very high esteem in
which she was held, was attested to bv
the large concourse of friends and nc-
qunintsnces, some of whom were dis-
tantly situatsd, who gathered to her
funeral on Thursday, the 14th, to pay
their last tribute of respect to her
memory. After singing the hlirrl Para-
pbrase, Rev. ;Mr. Wiiidden preached an
eloquent and touching sermon from the
words “Let not your heart be troubled;
ye believe in God, believe also in me,"
St. John xlv. vi. After which the cortege
was formel and notwithstanding the
bad roads and inclement weather, was cf
extrnorniniiry length, containing about
100 slelghs.\The pnllbnarers were James
Reeves, Hugh Mchnre, Joseph Biker,
John D. Matheson, D-iniel Iluchanun,
Picton Reeves. She will be misszdlfrom
her home, missed bv friends and
acquaintances, missed from society. But
our loss is her gain, She leaves a husband,
one daughter, and five stepchlldren,
besides hosts of friends and acquaint-
ances to cherish her memory.
