He was not at liberty to state the exact nature of the French government, but would state that it was of the utmost importance to his church work in France ; that it would here- after be recognized by the government, and would hereafter net want financial and other means of perfect success. It is curious to observe certain national characteristics. The Englishman always has a poor boot and a fine hat; the Ameri- can, a splendid boot and a shocking bad hat.
