When the Provincial Liberal Government first announced a program of Rural ectrifi- 
     
     cation it seemed too good to be true and was received with skepticism in some quart- 
     
     ers. However. today Rural Electrification is one of Prince Edward Island's greatest 
     
     benefits enjoyed by about 7519 rural customers. 
     
    
   
   
    
     The Matheson Government takes care of the areas not previously served and has built 
     
     136 miles of electric lines to serve over 600 rural customers. Applications are on file 
     
     from 2370 prospective rural customers for an additiond 431 miles of electric lines. 
     
    
   
   
    
     The Matheson Government program of Rural Electrification was expected to take five 
     
     years to complete but it is so much ahead of schedule that the job. it is anticipated.

     ernment  and one of the reasons. it is generally agreed. Premier Alex W. Math-
