MucEwen A very pleasant event took place on May 21st, in the Canadian N‘. tlonal Railway Hull at Charlotte- town w-ilen the conductors and trainmen of the Island division Q N. Railways met to give expres- sion of their respect for Mr, J. E. R. MLCEIWSU, chief tram ties-pat- in his usual courteous manner, thanking those men for theirklnd- ness in remembering hlm, also giving a retrospective outline oi’ his forty-seven years in the ser- vice ol the railway. which was very much enjoyed by all present. Chief among those who were invited to attend was Mr. T. C. Montgomery, superintendent o! the Island Division who, in the course of s. very fine speech paid tribute to Mr. MscEwerfs ability, saying that he had found hlm to be very efficient and that he was recog- nized as being one of the best chief train despatchers on the C. N. Railway. mhlis statement by an official of Mr. Montgomery's vast experience in different de- partments of’ railway management over the system, is tangible proof of Mr. Macllwerfs outstanding a- billly. Next speaker was Mir. M. A. Howeét, recently appointed chief despetcher who also praised Mr. MacDwen for his sterling qualit- les and devotion to duty. Other speakers included ND‘. N. A. Nicholson, supervisor of car service. A. B. Bagnall, yard agent, Conductors H. B. Douglas and Ur- las MacDonald, all of whom spoke very highly of him. - One of the best attestatlons of Mr. MaoEwerfs popularity is the fact that the large hall was tilled cher, who recently retired from the servloe on superannuation. After the meeting W85 called to order Mr. nlacilwen was asked to come forward, while (in behalf of those present) Mr. Arthur comp read an address and m, 1-1, 3, Douglas made a presentation to him ct’ an easy chair and leather- covered Bible.
