This past hockey season was one of disappointment and euphoria for the Lady Panthers. With the arrival of a few rookies, the Lady Panthers played their first game as a team during a weekend tour- Sports Centre Physiotherapy relocating By Cassandra Bernard Sports Centre Physiotherapy, located on the UPEI cam- pus, is moving and having a grand opening in the coming months. The centre is moving to 153 Belvedere Ave. where the old Dirty Dog Carwash building is. The centre moves into the new clinic at the beginning of March and should be open by the end of March or first of April. Adam MacKay, a business student at Holland College, is doing his on-the-job training with Colin Moore at Sports Centre Physiotherapy. MacKay has been doing his training for about five weeks and is enjoying his experi- ence. “Some of my tasks have in- cluded developing an adver- tising expense budget, creat- ing job postings, equipment costing, creating a facebook group, signage costs as well as a patient survey for client feedback.” MacKay said the staff at Sports Centre Physiotherapy are very friendly, knowl- edgeable and caring towards their patients needs. Moore said they specialize in sports medicine. “We take care of athletes from the UPEI and Holland College varsity program, lo- cal athletes and professional athletes, as well as the gen- eral public.” Moving will be very benefi- cial, Moore said. “This will provide more space for patients, equip- ment and much more park- ing availability.” Moore said he hopes to have a massage therapist in the near future as well as a chiropractor. “We also plan to offer pre- ventative programs, such as screenings for muscle tight- ness or weakness. Screens can also be done on move- ment patterns to prevent in- juries.” Moore said MacKay has done good work during his training. “He has been very helpful with any work he is asked to do.” MacKay said the staff is great at providing Island- ers, young and old, with the proper physiotherapy. “As their slogan says “Heal- ing your pain to get you ac- tive again.’” Bernard is a journalism student at Holland College nament in Maine. While the weekend wasn’t a complete success in re- gards to wins, it did provide them with a chance to play together before playing their first regular season game. Their first game was against Dalhousie University on Oct. 18, 2008 and resulted in a 10-1 loss for UPEI. Our Lady Panthers continued this downward spiral in their next four games against St. Fran- ces Xavier, Mount Allison, St. Mary’s and Université de Moncton. The month of November began pretty well for the Lady Panthers. A win against Mount Allison was what they needed and they ran with the winning momentum, beat- ing St. Mary’s 5-2 on Nov. 9, 2008. This win was espe- cially appreciated as it was the first time UPEI beat St. Mary’s in women’s hockey. The next five games were played against St. FX, Dal- housie and St. Thomas and all five were-lost to the re- spective teams. But the Lady Panthers took back some much needed wins in the month of January, only los- ing once to St. FX. January’s win made up for the losses in February. The Lady Panthers proved they could beat Dalhousie, St. Mary’s, Mount Allison and St. Thomas before slumping See ‘Lady Panthers’ page Il Justin Donati selected as AUS All-Star By Kate VanGerven Panther Post Congratulations to Justin Donati of the UPEI men’s hockey team.
