I A number of others spoke briefly and m reply.» their remarks.‘ the chairman said. that he considered that it would be better not to stand out for $70 per mile. as waatha amount ask-ed for in the first place but to ask for 860 or even $55 to start with, He also said he would like. 1m know what the Department paid ‘last winter for the aeroplanes which delivered mails to Summersidapnd lCharlottetown only six hours in ad- vance of the regular mall servicennd then only when weather permitted. Nothing was done to expedite, the rural mail services or for the mail carriers who had to face all weath- ers evsry day. Mr. A. E. MacLean, M. Mr. MacLean stated that this was not a question for one member of any constituency to settle but em- braced the whole Dominion which required very careful consideration because if the demand for a 870 per mile basis was granted it would mean an additional expenditure of $2,000,000 in the Post Master Gener- al's department. Mr. MacLesn took up a number of the questions w _ch had been raised by the various spoils- ers and advised the Association to crganiu more thoroughly end-if possible tc- arrange to meet it a tral point, preferably at Ottawa, and send delegates- from each Provincelto meet the Hon. He thought Mr. G. C. Anderson was more in favour o_f the. present system. The chairman in his closingVre- marks said that the maj-ority of the delegates would not be discouraged with anything that Mr, MacLean had said ‘out. would take a very optimis- tic view of the matter as they felt that. a change of Government at Ot- tawa would bring more satisfactory results.
