Follow them care- fully and you can't go wrong. They have been worked out by experts, usually at government or state ex- periment stations. Sprinkle wood ashes oxer the gar- den just before a rain. This is a great potash fertilizer and potash does not leach out of the soil. Pot- ash is a necessary fertilizer tor fruits and flowers. Do not spade in sawdust or shav- ings. They iorm breeding nests for insects and fungus pests and are of little iertiliztng value. Sheep manure and cow manure in commercial form are fine iertiliz~ ers- ii no stable manure is procur- able. They are very valuable to mix with the compost heap before it is spread into the soil. Dried blood is a good nitrogen supply and works more slowly than nitrate oi soda. It may be dug in when seed is planted" to good ad- vantage. Lime is good for sandy soil. It helps hold it together. Try some new vegetable -this year. You can't improve either yourself as a gardener or your garden without a certain amount of experimenting. This machine is one oi tile largest manufactured. standing eight feet high, and weighing over three tons. When tilled it holds 10.368 eggs. ‘Hatching eggs always cost more than market eggs and by placing a nominal, value on these oi 5c an e58. there would be more than $500 worth of eggs in the machine when ‘filled. The eggs are placed in trays and stand in tiers. 9 trays high in the machine. Special hatching or nursery trays are provided for the chickens when they are ready to hatch out, so that the machine can work con- tinuously without any delay from one week to another. The eggs are -not put in all at once. but a third each week so that \~e chickens can be when out each week. This huge incubator is heated by hot water. which in turn is hes-ted by an oil lamp. A continuous circul- ation oi‘ air is maintained by means of three large electric fans and the eggs are all turned by an automatic device which makes it unnecessary tor them to be remov- ed irom the machine. The Egg Circles df iPrinbe Ed- ward island" have show-u ‘consider- able initiative in operating a hatchery. ‘Prince Edward island has in recent years gained a leading position as a poultry province. Great improvement has been made in the quality of eggs by the Egg Circles. lBy operating the hatchery improvement. of the flocks will take place. Thus, th rounda- tions are being laid for still great- er improvement in the poultry in- dustry. As poultry raising ad~ vancee to a certani stage it is no longer possible to depend on nat- ural methods.
